TWO PIECE ADAPTERS Part 2

TWO PIECE ADAPTERS Part 2: Now that the first piece of the wheel adapter has been mounted its time to mount the second piece. Custom Motorsports included the necessary hardware to mount the two pieces together. This includes flat faced Alan-wrench bolts which are flush mounted with the surface of the adapter. Next I set the second piece of the adapter on. NOTE: There is a specific way the adapters connect together, Custom Motorsports uses a specific mounting bolt circle and aluminum mini-studs to assure the adapters can only be mounted the right way. See pictures below for details and images of the second adapter in place.  (click on images for large view)

TWO PIECE ADAPTERS Part 3: Now that the Custom Motorsports two piece adapters have been mounted and have successfully converted my original 5 on 4.5" wheel lug pattern to a 6 on 5.5" it was time for the moment of truth. (mounting the rear wheel and tires) First id like to mention that these adapters surprisingly didn't add much more than 1.75" of spacing per adapter. This widened my rear axle by approximately 3.25" total width. This was actually beneficial for my application since my ford 8.8's axle width is about 59" total and my recently swapped in Wagoneer Dana 44 front axle is approx. 62" from wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface. That mean the rear tires are going to stick out about 1/4" inch each side. This for me was perfectly acceptable and practically impossible to notice with 38.5x16 inch Super Swampers tires. See picture below for details.

CONCLUSION:

After dealing with Custom Motorsports I was very pleased with the service and product line. I had a chance to look around in the shop at there displays and I have to admit I was impressed with quality workmanship of these adapters. So far I've had no problems with the adapters and according to the owner even with 38.5" tires I more likely to break an axle or something else before I'd ever faze the strength of these adapters. This was nice to now since the last thing I want is a tire of that size coming off while cruising down the road or off-roading. The only downside of these adapters was the price, $325 dollars for two is a lot of money for some adapters but if it gets the job done its worth it. If you have any questions regarding special adapters call Custom Motorsports, they can adapt anything you need. Below are some additional Misc. pictures.
