Flying Fords and the Baddest Sand Car We Have Ever Seen from Off-Road Expo

Oct. 04, 2008 By Craig Perronne
Off-Road Expo is all about checking out some sweet rides and great products. Of course there is plenty else going on like the Toyota Ride and Drive, the freestyle Motorcross demo and the Off-Road.com girls to keep you entertained but we love cruising around and drooling over the coolest rides in the Off-Road Nation. We found a whole collection of bad-in-black vehicles this time that bruised the bottom of our jaws from hitting the floor too many times.

At the top of the list is this awesome sand car built by Buckshot that we found in the Off-Road.com booth with the Off-Road.com girls draped over it. Its unique body slathered in dark black with just a hint of metallic green and Monster graphics looks awesome. Of course the Chevy Big Block in the back increases our drooling even more. Then there is the very stout and extremely expensive Albins transaxle that the nasty V-8 is mated too. It is the same transaxle that is in Robby Gordon’s Dakar racer. Gobs of wheel travel abound to swallow up any bumps found in the dunes and even the interior is beautiful. Overall it is one of the nicest sand cars we have seen and the only one where guys were actually asking the girls to step aside so they could get a picture of just the buggy!

Another bad-in-black vehicle we spotted is Garron Cadiente’s bad ass Ford F-150 prerunner. It must be nice being a Trophy Truck driver. First you get to have an awesome race truck and then, of course, you have to have a just as bitchin prerunner. This is a full-tilt prerunner and is basically a Trophy Truck with a cab, windows and air conditioning. Often they are more expensive than the actual race trucks due to all the extra time spent building the interior and dealing with an actual cab. But if you are a Trophy Truck driver you need at least one of these to do some serious prerunning in. Ah the life. Maybe we can convince Garron to be charitable and give us this black beauty. Check out Garron’s prerunner in the Toyo Tire’s booth along with his race truck.

Flying F-150’s seem to be all the rage here at Off-Road Expo and we spotted yet another bitchin black Ford. This one belongs to Camburg Engineering and is on display in Nitto Tire’s both. Again this is a serious prerunner but also has an interesting twist on it as it uses one of Camburg’s off-the-shelf suspension systems on the front instead of an exotic, one-off suspension. It makes perfect sense as the Ford can be used to severely test and develop Camburg’s suspension components. Now if we can only get the job of being the guy who gets to drive this beautiful F-150 to do the testing!
