Class 30: Francisco Arredondo, Ryan Dudek, Shane Esposito, Brian Pinard, Chris Haines
(riders over 30 years old)
Race Time: 20:57:09 (42.5 mph)

Not only the 349x Honda team win Class 30, the team also was the third motorcycle across the finish line overall. The five-rider team featured Francisco Arredondo, Ryan Dudek, Shane Esposito, Brian Pinard and Chris Haines.

“We had a good run,” Esposito said after the race. “I liked our qualifying position because I wanted to be fourth or fifth to start, and then we wouldn't have to worry about passing and we could just ride our own race. We did a couple of wheel and filter changes and didn't have any problems. The hard part of starting at night was figuring out how to sleep because you're up all day and then start at 11 p.m. I thought it was great (starting at night) because it was something different.

Class 19:  Scott Kiger, Mark Holz, RJ Anderson
(Limited, stock 4-wheel utility vehicle)
Race Time: 27:16:57 (32.4 mph)

There were a great number of vehicles taking the starting line in Class 19, as 19 UTVs were entered in the class. Only five finished the race, and of them the team of Scott Kiger, Mark Holz and RJ Anderson took the win after 27 hours, 16 minutes and 57 seconds of racing. “I drove through the night through the sand washes and the biggest problem was being able to see,” Anderson said. “It was gnarly out there. Right at the end of the race we lost both rear axles but we have four-wheel drive so we came in on two axles.”

Trophy Truck Spec: Clyde Stacy, Eduardo Laguna, Rodolfo Iribe
(Unlimited truck/SUV, stock, sealed V8s)
Race Time: 23:33:19 (37.5 mph)

The Trophy Truck Spec class was won by the trio of Clyde Stacy, Eduardo Laguna and Rodolfo Iribe, who averaged 37.5 mph during the race.  “It was a long day and the course was really long with lots of technical sections,” Stacy said. “We just kind of survived and are lucky we are at the finish. We get better and better every race, and hopefully we will be here soon for a championship.”

Class 40: Scott Yenzer, Bill Gilbert, Marin Camp, Shihab Alireza
(riders over 40 years old)
Race Time: 25:36:27 (34.5 mph)

After 25 hours, 36 minutes and 27 seconds of racing, the four-rider team on the 414x bike won the race. The team – which featured Scott Yenzer, Bill Gilbert, Marin Camp and Shihab Alireza – was the 10th bike across the line. “This was such a difficult course and such a difficult race,” Gilbert said. “Everybody worked so hard to put this together. This is a really long and rough course and the longest loop ever. The terrain out there is so rough and difficult and so many bikes fell to attrition. It is hard to keep these things together for the whole race. I did the Puertecitos whoops today and it's the worst I've ever seen it. I'm 45 years old now and I never want to race those again.”

SCORE Ironman: Alexander Smith
Race Time:
27:04:50 (32.6 mph)

The new SCORE Ironman motorcycle class had nine starters this year, but there was only one of the racers who finished. Alexander Smith, son of Baja legend Malcom Smith, earned the win in 27 hours, 4 minutes and 50 seconds.  “My father has never been fond of the idea of me racing motorcycles, and when I told him I was thinking about doing this he said he didn't want me to,” Alexander said. “He realized I was going to do it whether he liked it or not. He gave me the time off work and here I am. This is my first Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 on a motorcycle. I was so focused and so busy getting the program set for the race that I didn't really have much preparation except for my normal training on a road bicycle.”
