10 Reasons to Buy New Continued

Modern SUVs, such as the 2015 GMC Terrain SLE, offer plenty of towing power to pull campers and vehicles.

Capability
For the most part, people don’t buy big vehicles for their efficiency, features or styling – they buy them for their capability. As the automakers have advanced powertrain and vehicle designs over the years, SUVs and trucks have definitely become more capable. Pickup trucks now have unfathomable tow ratings pushing or exceeding the 30,000-pound capacity with payload and ruggedness to match, while SUVs have improved as the ultimate family road trip vehicle with more passenger and space as well as better towing abilities.

Buying a new vehicle means getting a full warranty for your new truck or SUV. Some new purchases also come with added manufacturer benefits, such as Toyota with its ToyotaCare plan, which will include the first few years of scheduled maintenance on new vehicle purchases.

Peace of Mind
Perhaps the best part about buying any new vehicle peace of mind that comes with driving off the dealership lot including a full warranty, which is even truer for trucks and SUVs driven off road or towing. Buying used does save you some money on the front end, but that savings can be squandered with either high-cost aftermarket warranties or out-of-warranty repair costs. This rings true with any vehicle purchase, but the biggest peace of mind specific to a new truck or SUV is the amazing level of safety built into these designs including the use of strong, rigid chassis and the latest safety devices technologies (ranging from airbags and stability control to adaptive cruise control backup cameras).

Economy
A revitalized economy isn’t just good for reducing the unemployment rate, it’s also helping to boost the sales of bigger family- and/or work-friendly vehicles. Truck and SUV sales have rebounded, which has given automakers more incentive to produce more trucks. While we’re definitely not seeing the gross overproduction from several years ago, the vast truck and SUV selection out there should make it far easier to find some extra cash on the hood or even allow for easier negotiation, if you’re flexible. Both of these aspects of a booming truck and SUV market are highly beneficial for anyone in the market for a new, but it’s probably even better for those who are considering a new-to-themselves used vehicle.

The 2015 Ford Explorer is a great example of a modern SUV that features a unibody construction for improved handling and comfort for passengers.

Quality
The best vehicle, of course, is one that you don’t have to worry about using your warranty or fretting over downtime. Over the last five years or so, just about all vehicles have seen a spike in overall quality, refinement and craftsmanship, and this is definitely the case with bigger trucks and SUVs. In the past, these buyers knew that sacrifices would be made in the name of maximizing utility and strength, but modern trucks and SUVs offer everything from high-quality cabin materials to reduced cabin noise, which has led to trucks no longer feeling like trucks. This is even more important for SUV buyers since they want all of the capabilities of these large vehicles without the cheap interiors, unreliability or the rough ride with the latter of which being why many automakers have gone away from the traditional body-on-frame SUV design.
