OK, face it. There's one inevitability in shooting. You will never have enough space to carry all your shooting gear in one box! Believe me I have tried, and the best I can do is get it down to about 3 boxes, for a day at the range, 2 if I really scrimp.

Up until recently it was 4 boxes, (1) shooting box, (1) ammo box, (1) gun box, (1) cleaning box. Luckily, the range I go to is out door, and I can back my Cherokee fairly close to the table. Still, its a hassle. So, when I saw Dave & Denise Goodrich's, Dr. Ichabod Flickenheimer & Co., Delux Range Box in a copy of The Cowboy Chronicle, I gave them a call. First of all let me say, they are two of the nicest people you could ever hope to talk to. They were quick to answer all my questions concerning the box in their ad., and in no time at all they had all the information needed to start on my box.

I got it right at the end of December. Due to the weather and many family activities, it was quite a while before I got to take the box out and do anything with it. First of all, the box is beautiful. The workmanship is very nice, with dovetail joints and close fitting parts. Aside from a beautifully crafted box, the artwork on the front is top notch too. It has my initials on the lid, my SASS Alias, and SASS badge complete with my SASS number. The most unique item is the rifle vice, that makes for easy cleanup, although I hesitate to use it for anything more than a stand, because I don't want to mar the box's finish. A last, and very nice, finishing touch is the all leather and brass handle, that is very comfortable. A note of apology here, I fully intended to have a picture ready, but due to scanner problems (I don't have one and I need to find a new source for scanning pictures) I will have to post one here at a later date. Please check in The Cowboy Chronicle for a picture of the Deluxe Range Box.

Inside it's a fairly open design, offering lots of storage room for the many items I carry. A quick trip to a local Container store, got me all the plastic storage boxes I needed. Taking the measurements with me, I was able to fit (2) 6 ? x 11 x 1 ? closed top boxes for cleaning gear, and (1) 7 ? x 10 ? x 1 ? inch open top box. Each box was compartmentalized, so I could store lots of little parts. This left me with an additional 7 x 8 x 5 area open for my ear muffs, shooting glasses, cleaning patches and a few bottles too big for the boxes. All in all I get everything but my Chrony into this one box, a real feat for me! The lid of the box also has about 2 inches of clearance, so I was able to fold a couple of shop towels, that I always take along for hand rest pads and cleaning, and store them on top of the rest of the stuff.

So now when I go to the range I'm stylin. The box gets a lot of attention from other shooters, and I am able to get all my crap.... I mean stuff, in and out in short order. Thanks a ton, Dave and Denise, I think I'll be keepin this little box.
