Lexus GX470 Overlander
It’s not everyday you see a luxury SUV built into an overlander, but we stumbled across this unique Lexus GX470 at this year’s show at the Southern Style Speed booth. The SSS team, which makes custom bumpers for Lexus and Toyota vehicles, was outfitting a new rear bumper for Seth Jacobsen’s GX. Outfitted with an Icon Stage 6 suspension setup with 2.5-inch remote reservoir shocks with a CDC knob to adjust the hydraulic dampening (allowing fine tuning without needing to air down). Cooper S/T Maxx 285/65R18 tires are fitted on 18x9 Fuel wheels.

Metal Tech sliders offer sidewall protection, while a plethora of KC HiLites lights aluminate the GX’s path, including a 40-inch and 20-inch LED bar, corner LEDs on the Rhino Rack provide side lighting and underneath trail lighting. A Foxwing awning pulls out from the side for shaded cover.

The Come Up winch (which features an outside drum so as not to melt synthetic rope) mounted to the SSS front bumper helps the LX get out of jams, and Bud Built skid plates provide undercarriage protection. A 20-gallon on-board water tank provides fresh water on the trail. It’s a unique rig that Jacobsen is adding to his already impressive 80 Series Land Cruiser. He can be reached via his website at AdventureDriven.com.

XPCamper
XPCamper out of Grass Valley, California, is designed specifically for the overland traveler who needs a pop-up camper for their truck, offering options for compact and half-ton trucks as well as 3/4-ton and 1-ton trucks. The fiberglass-composite, pop-up camper lifts electronically with the push of a button. The sides of the XPCampers are constructed of molded, composite-over-foam core that’s wrapped in hand-laid, unidirectional fiberglass that’s reinforced with carbon fiber.

The V1 version for midsized trucks features a dinette section, an electric stove, refrigerator and bed area. The pricing ranges considerably for the units, with the V1 version running approximately $40,000. For more information on the different models and options, visit XPcamper.com
