The CORR series nears the midpoint of the season with rounds 5 and 6 being completed at Crandon, WI. The racing action was heated in all divisions and the fans were certainly entertained. Even though the Pro-4 race in Round 6 only had 3 trucks running at the end there was a lot of action for most of the race as Carl Renezeder and Johnny Greaves duked it out for the lead. Scott Taylor in Pro-2 and Chad Hord in Pro-Lite were in championship form as they both swept both rounds. Hord came from back in the pack both rounds while Taylor had it a little easier leading all laps in both events. The land rush start equalized the starting line-up so it was all about getting a good start to get to the front. There were no major incidents in the high speed turn one at Crandon. Dave Christoferson was unfortunate to get his Pro-4 upside down in Round 5 but was able to return in Round 6. Don Ponder also used the top of his truck rolling after getting into the wall coming out of the Barn Jump turn in Round 6. The Governor’s Cup Challenge once again demonstrated it ain’t over til it’s over. Jason Baldwin found out first had why they call the final turn at Crandon Calamity Corner. Contact with a Sportsman 2 truck slowed him to a stop and his brother Josh beat him to the line in the resulting scramble. The close finish had the fans on the hillside on their feet. The one drawback of the weekend was the extensive amount of time spent doing track prep. This lead to the inability to keep the races on track with the printed schedule. Credit should be given to the fans for sticking it out through all the down time.

The points races were shaken up a bit with some racers making a charge up the standings. There are new points leaders in some divisions as the leaders were stricken with poor luck.

Carl Renezeder continues to hold on to the Pro-4 lead despite a 5 th place finish in Round 6. Jason Baldwin is only 9 points back with 94 points. In a division with a low truck count every point is important. As demonstrated in Round 6 sometimes all you need is to keep you truck running and a good finish may be in store. Josh Baldwin did just that to finish 3 rd and also maintain 3 rd in points, 4 points ahead of Johnny Greaves 76-72. Greaves put it all together with a 1 st and 2 nd finish to finally gain some points. Rick Huseman seemed to have the truck running good in Round 5 only to not start in Round 6. He is tied for 8 th in points with Al Drews with 46 points.

Carl Renezeder holds on to his points lead

Scott Taylor increased his lead in Pro-2 with the double wins increasing his margin over 2 nd to 19 points, 101-82 over Josh Baldwin. Baldwin seems to have gotten a handle on his Pro-2 this year with a higher average finishing position. Privateer Brian Hinman is showing he can run with the high dollar teams holding on the the 3 rd position with 73 points. A pair of 2 nd place finishes bolstered his position in the points giving him a 6 point cushion over Carl Renezeder who holds down 4 th. Evan Evans has battled mechanical problems throughout the first 6 rounds leaving him down in 8 th place with 57 points.

Scott McMillin took over in the U.S. Marines Pro-2

Chad Hord used his two wins to vault him into the points lead over Steve Federico 95-79. Federico lost ground with 5 th and 10 th place finishes in rounds 5 and 6. Art Schmitt has also moved up the board with a pair of 3 rd place finishes moving him into 3 rd in points 20 points out of the lead with 70. The Nissan trucks have come on strong recently with two trucks in the top 5. Randy Eller is using consistent finishes to maintain 5 th place with 58 points. If he keeps up the consistent runs he should have no trouble staying in the top 5. At this point however, it looks like Hord will be tough to beat. 2004 Champion Kyle LeDuc is back in 8 th due to poor finishes in both rounds. He definitely has his work cut out for him with 8 rounds remaining.

Bob Blaney leads a pack of Single Buggies out of the gravel pit

Sportsman 2 saw Dan Baudoux run away with both races allowing him to move into first with a slim 1 point lead over former leader Ben Wandahsega 99-98. Wandahsega seems to have his new truck figured out as he’s been a frontrunner all year. Michael Savage has never finished lower than 5 th to keep him in 3 rd place, 4 points ahead of Ross Hoek 77-73. Hoek had his truck working great with a 2 nd and 3 rd place finish this weekend. The fight for first definitely looks like it’s going to be between Baudoux and Wandahsega although a weekend of poor finishes for anyone can really change the outlook in the standings.

Evan Evans and Scott Douglas get turned around in Calamity Corner

Keith Steele and Dave Waldvogel flip flopped finishes with each driver taking a win and a 2 nd place. However, Steele still holds a 5 point lead over Waldvogel 98-93. Scott Beauchamp finished 3 rd both days to fall into 3 rd, 9 points back of Waldvogel. These three drives have shown themselves to be the class of the stock truck field in 2005.

Aaron Hawley continues to lead the super buggy division with a 31 point lead over Gary Nierop who scored his first win in Round 6. Hawley has not finished lower than 3 rd in 2005 giving him 96 points. Mike Geiser is tied for 2 nd with Nierop with 65 points. Corry Heynen is in 6 th place with 52 points despite not racing during the opening two rounds.

Shayne Pagles leads Art Schmitt over the Trac-Rite jump

The single buggy class has only seen four different winners in 2005. Michael Seefeldt has 3 wins and a 2 nd to stay atop the standings with 90 points, 5 points better than Mark Steinhardt. These two drivers have been two of the top drivers in this class for several years. Steve Socha sits 3 rd in points with 79. He’s been on the podium every race except for round 2 in Lake Odessa. He remains a threat in the points race as long as he keeps up the podium finishes.

Al Konitzer tries to hold of Scott Beauchamp in Stock Truck

Ben O’Connell broke the tie for the points lead with Jeff Virnig after Virnig ran into trouble on the last lap of Round 6. O’Connell has a 9 point lead over Virnig 92-83. Craig Metz won both rounds to move all the way up to 3 rd, 25 points off the pace. The light buggy class has turned into a two buggy show although anything can happen with 8 rounds to go.

The next stop for the CORR series is Topeka, KS at the Heartland Park Speedway July 8-9.
