Going into the final weekend of racing, Scott Taylor and his #1 Skyjacker BFGoodrich Tires Ford F-150 had an 18-point lead over Evan Evans. With that in mind, finishing both rounds in the top 5 and keeping Evans behind him were the keys to winning the championship.

Just after the team arrived in New York on Thursday afternoon, the rains began to fall. When the rains finally stopped Saturday morning, the Robinson family and their expert track crew went to work. Later that afternoon the track was ready for the final two rounds of the 2004 season.

Round 13
With all the rain, track conditions were somewhat slippery. Scott decided to groove up a special set of BFGoodrich tires just for this round. Once the green flag dropped, Scott found that the tires hooked up great down the straightaways, but it was a real handful in the slippery corners. This made passing difficult. In fact, Scott was given a stop and go penalty for passing under a yellow flagged corner. In Scott’s defense, the flag was positioned in a hard to see position. After the penalty, the #1 Skyjacker BFGoodrich Tires Ford F-150 worked its way to a fourth place finish, just two spots behind Evan Evans.

Round 14
The final round of 2004 season saw Scott Taylor thinking about more about the championship, that winning the final round. His strategy was to make sure he finished with Evans within his sights. For this round, Scott went with the tire combination BFGoodrich recommended. As the race progressed, several of the front-runners ran into trouble. Scott found himself finishing in second place with Evans Evans behind him in third. The second place finish gave Scott Taylor his sixth consecutive Pro-2 championship.

“This championship was a real challenge for the entire team. It started in the off-season with the side-steer cockpit changes, then we ran into some tough times mid-season in Bark River, but the team battled all year and now we’re taking home the title. I really want to thank all our sponsors, especially our newest partner, Skyjacker Suspension.” – Scott Taylor
