Easter Jeep Safari Trail Rides with Jeep, Mopar and Dodge Ram Trucks

Apr. 21, 2011 By Josh Burns
The Jeep and Mopar trail ride on Fins and Things gave us a chance to ride in a variety of different Jeeps, including some of the Moparized vehicle it introduce earlier in the week at Easter Jeep Safari, such as the Cherokee Overland.

Earlier in the week at the 2011 Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah, Mopar unveiled some of its newest Jeep and Ram creations developed by the Mopar Underground. A few days later, the media was invited to get behind the wheel of some of these rides on the trail.

Aside from the “Moparized” Jeeps hitting the trails, the engineering team behind the Dodge Ram truck line also traveled to Moab, bringing with them a group of new Power Wagons that we also got on the trails. For the Jeep group, we tackled Fins and Things in the morning, and in the afternoon we took the long-wheelbase Power Wagons on Poison Spider in the afternoon.

The Jeep Compass Canyon might have been down on power compared to the other Jeeps, but it still tackled the hills with the best of them. It just took a little more careful planning on some climbs.

In the group of Moparized Jeeps, we had the Cherokee Overland on the ride, the Canyon Compass, a stock Grand Cherokee, Call of Duty Wrangler Rubicon and a few others. We swapped vehicles during the ride to feel the difference and challenge each section in a new Jeep vehicle.

All four Power Wagons on our ride came in and out of Poison Spider Trail will little more than a few scuffs.

After lunch, we ventured over to Poison Spider with the Ram Trucks crew in the Power Wagons. Another group of journalists tackled Hell’s Revenge in the morning, but due to crowds we ventured to Spider in the afternoon. Although a few journalists in the group might’ve doubted the Power Wagons’ ability to tackle the trail with such a long wheelbase, our group cruised up with of the tougher climbs with relative ease. Only a few times did the trucks drag on the rocks.

Check out some of the action from the ride in the pictures below. For more on Jeep’s line of vehicle, visit Jeep.com. For more on Ram’s truck, including the Power Wagon, visit RamTrucks.com. And for more on the Mopar’s Performance Accessories, visit Mopar.com.

In spite of the Dodge Ram Power Wagon’s long wheelbase, the full-sized truck handled Poison Spyder’s climbs just fine.

This stock Grand Cherokee took on Fin and Things with no trouble.

Dropping off of rock ledges required a little more careful planning, but the Power Wagon performed quite well in Jeep country at Moab.

Our ride on Fins and Things reminded us that the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is one of the most capable off-road vehicles out of the box.

Jeep, Mopar and Dodge Ram put together two great rides of us in Moab, Utah.
