Yamaha's off-road family continues to
produce more offspring. In 1999, Yamaha introduced the all-new electric-start
four-stroke
TT-R225 and TT-R250. For 2000, Yamaha introduces three all-new motorcycles, the
TT-R90,
TT-R125 and TT-R125L.
The 2000 line of Yamaha off-road bikes, eight
models total, has machines not only for the adults, but beginners and
kids' bikes, as
well.

During the 1980s and 90s, Yamaha firmly
established itself as the leading producer of children's bikes - thanks to models like the
PW80, PW50, and RT100.
A four-stroke SOHC 89cc air-cooled engine powers the new TT-R90. This compact and reliable
powerplant has been specially developed for the TT-R90, and is equipped with a lightweight
crank and compact CDI rotor, that ensure instant throttle response and spirited
acceleration. A Mikuni VM16SH carburetor delivers a precisely-metered flow of fuel to the
low-emission 89cc engine.
The new TT-R90 features a 3-speed, semi-automatic transmission, that allows riders to
develop their shifting (i.e. riders graduating from the fully-automatic PW50) and throttle
control skills without having to worry about a clutch.
The TT-R90 chassis is based on the highly successful PW80 design, while its radical new
bodywork has been inspired by Yamaha's championship YZ line. Its tubular twin-spar
construction makes for a rigid chassis, and this design also offers plenty of access to
the engine for easy routine maintenance. For added engine protection, the TT-R90 is fitted
with a tough steel engine guard. A grab handle behind the seat makes for easy loading into
a van or trailer.
Long travel front forks give a generous 4.3" of smooth-action wheel travel for a soft
ride, while the lightweight Monocross rear suspension features a Bilstein-type shock
absorber, operated by a square-section swinging arm and offers 3.7" of travel.
Equipped with a 14 inch front wheel, 12 inch rear wheel and a low 24.5" racing-type
seat, the TT-R90 is ideal for most children.
A lightweight plastic fuel tank with air scoops, YZ-type front and rear fenders,
sidepanels, front number plate and bright new graphics make the TT-R90 one of the most
impressive looking children's bikes around today.
The 2000 TT-R90 is available in Team Yamaha Blue/White for a manufacturer's suggested
retail price of $1,649. |
