Rob MacCachren notched another win in Crandon with a Round 9 SST victory.

The Stadium Super Trucks series headed to Crandon International Off-Road Raceway this past weekend for rounds 9 and 10.  There were 10 drivers behind the wheel of the SST trucks, with new drivers Craig Potts, Brock Heger and Scott Steele getting behind the wheel for the first time.

For the first round of racing at SST racing at Crandon over Labor Day weekend, Rob MacCachren earned the victory to earn his fourth win of the season in the Speed Energy Stadium Super Trucks series.

“Practice did not go very well for us as we ended up seizing up a power steering pulley and I only was able to make two laps of practice,” MacCachren said. “I did not know what to expect, and I needed to get out there and learn the track. Fortunately I was able to follow, watch, learn and finally set sail there and get by Robby (Gordon) with the momentum going over the big jump. After that, I just needed to settle in and make no mistakes.

“These trucks are fun to drive, as they are very difficult to drive. Going out there and being successful is a huge accomplishment to me. The SST series is good we are leading the points, and we need to keep having consistent good finishes.”

Finishing second in the 12-lap race was Robby Gordon, who held a lead on MacCachren for much of the race until a late pass, and Jerrett Brooks, who rounded out the podium in third place.

The second SST race of the weekend was held on Sunday afternoon, with the 10-truck field starting with a famous Crandon land rush start. The young racer Jerrett Brooks jumped out to the early holeshot and would hold the lead until being later passed by Sheldon Creed before the halfway mark.

Jerrett Brooks earned the Round 10 win at Crandon.

During the halfway restart, SST pulled a wild shift as they put the racers in reverse for the last six laps. The battle between Creed and Brooks carried over to the second half of the race, with Creed keeping Brooks at bay for the restart. A costly mistake a few laps in cost Creed his lead, however, and Brooks moved into the lead spot and heald it to the finish. He is the second teenager to win an SST competition.

“I came out and got my first holeshot in my only my second time racing this track,” Brooks said. “ Sheldon gave me a tremendous battle the first half of the race, and we came to the second half where we ran the track backwards. I got a good pass on Sheldon right away, and just started hitting my lines lap after lap trying to stay on the cushion as much as possible, extending my lead on Sheldon little by little. He gained a little on me on the last lap, but the No. 77 Synergy Electric Truck came out with the win.”

The Speed Energy Stadium Super Trucks continues later this month from September 20-22, in Costa Mesa, Calif., at the 2013 Sand Sports Super Show. More info on the remaining 2013 events can be found at http://www.stadiumsupertrucks.com/.
