Bilstein Baja 1000 Update - 10:00 AM

Ensenada, Baja California - The 38th annual SCORE Tecate Baja 1000 contingency is in full tilt here on the Pacific Coast of Mexico. Renown as the grandaddy of all off road races, the Baja 1000 has arrived and the city of Ensenada has opened their arms wide open for the world's best off road racers who have all arrived to this seaside town.

Ensenada looms large in shadows of the Baja Mil!

Here at the Riveria Convention Center some 150 cars are already lined up for contingency and technical inspection as motorcycles and quads wind there way through the heavy crowds moving towards the front of the technical inspection line.

Sponsored by Tecate and held in the open streets of downtown Ensenada, Mexico's Baja Mil (Baja 1000 in Spanish) is regarded by the citizens of Mexico as one of the biggest events in the country. Tens of thousands of fans have descended upon the contingency zone here just a stones throw away from the Port of Ensenada. The music is pounding loud and the crowds continue to swell.

This international event has over 300 entries with many more expected in the next 12 hours leading up to the final registration for the 2005 Baja 1000.

There are many stories unfolding here at contingency row including 2004 Baja 500 winner - Alan Pflueger and his #28 Trophy Truck now wearing a new color --- the color of his new sponsor - Monster Energy drink. Team Pflueger is outfitted with new race attire featuring the the very cool Monster Energy drink logo on all their shirts.

Baja racing veteran and NASCAR driver - Robby Gordon is here with his Chevy powered trophy truck and is proudly sporting his new tire sponsor - Toyo Tires. Gordon has been racing in Baja since he was only a teenager and his recent announcement at the 2005 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada was only the beginning of new things to come at Robby Gordon Motorsports. Gordon also announced that Robby Gordon Motorsports recently hired their first ever driver - Young Gun Andy McMillin, who will drive the # 83 Robby Gordon trophy truck at SCORE races that Gordon will not be able to attend due to his NASCAR commitments. However, Gordon announced that he and Andy McMillin will race together splitting seat time at the 2006 Baja 500 and Baja 1000.

Honda's Red Rider's Johnny Campbell and Steve Hengeveld have added a third team member to this years 2005 race. 2005 Baja 500 Winner - Mike Childress will join the most winningest OPEN class motorcycle team ever in their quest for yet another Baja win.

At this season's Baja 500 - Childress joined with Mouse McCoy where they outperformed the number one Honda team and captured the victory stunning the off road racing world. Since the Baja 500, McCoy, also the star of the movie - Dust to Glory, was injured filming a commercial in Canada and will be sidelined from participating in this race on a motorcycle. But that won't stop this Hollywood stunt man from racing the Baja 1000. This time he'll race in a truck from behind the wheel of a 600 horsepower race machine.

BFGoodrich Tires has a huge presence here at this year's race as they celebrate 30 years of racing in Baja and the hush-hush of the day is the possibility that they captured their 20th Baja 1000 win in a row with some luck here this year.
