Ford Performance has unveiled the F-150 Lightning Switchgear, a new high-performance electric vehicle designed for both on- and off-road use. This vehicle, based on the best-selling F-150 Lightning electric truck in America, is the result of a collaborative effort between Ford Performance and RTR Vehicles. The design of the F-150 Lightning Switchgear was inspired by the 2016 F-150 RTR Ultimate Fun-Haver project vehicle. It features custom exterior carbon bodywork adorned with a Ford Performance 2024 livery.

The F-150 Lightning Switchgear is part of Ford Performance’s Demonstrator program, which includes notable vehicles such as SuperVan 4.0 and 4.2, the Mustang Mach-E 1400, Mustang CobraJet 1400, and the F-100 Eluminator. This program aims to explore the potential of electric vehicles and serves as a platform for engineers to rapidly advance future electric vehicle technologies.

The vehicle is engineered to push the limits of electric trucks, offering increased track width for better off-road stability, enhanced ground clearance, and improved suspension travel. It features FOX 3-inch diameter internal bypass shock absorbers, unique front and rear bumpers for better approach and departure angles, and a suspension system that includes custom independent double-wishbone suspension at the front and multilink independent suspension at the rear.

Additional features of the F-150 Lightning Switchgear include carbon composite front fenders, bed sides, and rear bumper cover, as well as steel fabricated rock rails and a front skid plate for off-road protection. The vehicle is equipped with NITTO Ridge Grappler 37×12.5R18 tires and a unique chase rack that holds two spare wheels and tires.

The public will have its first opportunity to see the F-150 Lightning Switchgear at the King of the Hammers off-road racing event, which begins on January 25 in Johnson Valley, California.
