The long-rumored 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser is finally close to reality

Mark your calendars. Toyota is set to reveal the next-generation Land Cruiser on August 1st at 9:20 p.m. EST. The Japanese automaker released a teaser image that shows the upcoming 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser headlight and front fascia, parked next to a classic 60 Series Land Cruiser and it’s clear the new vehicle will share that model’s rectangular design language.

The 2024 model will be a major departure from the current global-market 300 Series Land Cruiser, which is not available in the United States.

Platform and Powertrain

The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser will share its platform with the recently revealed Lexus GX, which is based on the same body-on-frame architecture, internally known as TNGA-F, first seen on the Toyota Tundra pickup truck and adapted for a smaller vehicle with the 2024 Toyota Tacoma

We don’t yet know what we’ll see under the hood, but the Lexus GX offers a twin-turbo, 3.4-liter V6 engine that produces 349 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. A hybrid variant is also expected to join the lineup later.

Design

The 2024 Land Cruiser will also feature a new design that is more angular and rugged than the sleek and curvy 300 Series. The teaser image reveals a large grille with the ‘TOYOTA’ lettering, rectangular headlights with LED accents, and a prominent bumper with fog lights and skid plates. The SUV will also sport a new light blue color paint scheme, according to another teaser image released by Toyota.

Pricing and Competition

Toyota has not announced the pricing or availability of the 2024 Land Cruiser yet, but we expect it will undercut its Lexus cousin but possibly sticker above the larger Toyota Sequoia.

As popular as the SUV segment has become, there aren’t a lot of truly capable SUVs in the premium space. Expect the new Land Cruiser to be positioned against vehicles like the Land Rover Defender 110, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and fully-loaded Ford Broncos.
