We’ll be the first to admit that off-road wipers are not the first product that comes to mind when outfitting a Jeep or four-wheel drive truck for some fun on the trails. While the industry is loaded with products designed specifically for the 4×4 community, windshield wipers were never part of the equation. The BFGoodrich off-road wipers changes that.
While its easy to see the need for things like tires, shocks, winches, and other parts and accessories for off-road vehicles, until recently off-road wipers weren’t really a consideration. But like pretty much every other part on your vehicle, wipers on off-road vehicles face a lot more stress than those used in passenger cars that live on paved surfaces. After all, you don’t often need to clear rock-filled mud off your daily driver. But if drive through a mud hole in a trail, you will soon find yourself with just such a need.

What Makes Off-Road Wipers Different?
Pylon Manufacturing Corporation designed the BFGoodrich off-road wipers and the company notes that they were “[m]ade specifically for trucks, jeeps, SUVs and 4×4’s.”
Pylon says it took inspiration from the BFGoodrich T/A KO2 tire tread in the design of the off road wipers and they are built to take a beating.
“These wiper blades are tough enough for off-road driving, with proven performance for everyday travel,” Pylon says. “Whether faced with mud, rain, snow or grime, the BFGoodrich Off-Road Wiper Blades are built to improve visibility in even the toughest of conditions.”
But what makes the BFGoodrich off-road wipers different from the ones on your car? It all comes down to the details. Here are some features of the new off-road windshield wipers that set them apart:
- SCRUB-X Technology: For extreme weather conditions to clear away mud, bugs, rain, snow and grime
- Heavy Duty Design: Durable rubber element made for off-road driving
- WeatherTread Technology: Repels mud, rain, snow and ice for the cover delivering superior wiping performance
- X-Flex Suspension: For complete windshield contact
- Secure-X Connector: Easy and secure Installation
How Much Do They Cost?
New technology tends to cost more than the stuff that’s been around for a while and that definitely rings true in the case of the BFGoodrich off-road wipers. Right now, a pair of these wipers retails for $79.
If that seems high for a pair of wiper blades, we would have to agree. But if you’ve ever had to deal with a dirty, smudged windshield while you try to navigate an off-road trail, that price tag starts to seem like a little less of a problem.
Alternative – Bosch ICON
While the BFGoodrich off-road wipers are the kid on the block, Jeep and 4×4 truck owners have been getting by with other wiper blades for years now.
The Bosch ICON is a beam-style wiper blade that, according to Bosch, lasts up to 40% longer than other premium blades. They also boast an asymmetrical flexible spoiler design to make easy and quiet wiping. And the fact that you’ll see Bosch wipers on a number of Audi, Mercedes-Benz and BMW vehicles from the factory, you know the quality is there.
