If you’re planning to leave your rig unattended for a spell, or simply seek to protect it from the elements from time to time, it might be a good idea to invest in a Jeep Wrangler cover. There are umpteen different options for this accessory, so we’ve assembled an array of them here including a couple of alternatives that might not have crossed your Jeepy mind.

There are plenty of variables with car covers, including the number of layers of which it is comprised and whether or not the thing permits access to the vehicle that is covered. Most of the products on this list are simply grey in color but snazzy shades are available for those of you who can’t keep their extrovert personality at bay.

Also, make sure to double check your application before hitting the ‘buy’ button. Wranglers have been produced for decades; while they have retained a recognizable body shape, differences over the years could mean a JK cover might not fit well on a JL. Same goes for 2- and 4-door variants, naturally.

1. Editor's Choice: KouKou 6-Layer SUV/Car Cover for Jeep

Hilarious brand name notwithstanding, this cover has a lot of good attributes. Its price is right, as are the accumulated real-world ratings from paying customers. Grey in color with a bright reflective stripe, this multi-layer cover is said to use heavy duty and secure materials to result in a “100% waterproof” cover for your Jeep Wrangler. The ad copy touts the highly reflective aluminum-look fabric as anti-UV and able to keep the covered machine cool in summer weather. Physics does teach us that light reflects off colors this type, so there may be something to this claim. The inner lining is soft cotton, helping to protect the factory paint.

2. Best 2-Door Cab Cover: Mopar Jeep Wrangler Cab Cover

This one is a gen-u-wine Mopar product, meaning it should fit a lot better than O.J.’s glove. After all, who better to have the proper measurements of a Wrangler than the very people who built the thing? Weighing just 5.6 pounds, this cover is intended to protect the cabin area of your Wrangler, leaving the hood and front fenders exposed. This is great if you live in a climate where you enjoy running the Jeep with the top off for extended periods but also need to quickly cover up in the event of an impending rainstorm. Speaking of, real-world customers report this cab cover doesn’t pool much water in the middle area, preventing sag and warding off leaks. Any water that does accumulate in torrential conditions can be easily flicked off before removal.

3. Best 4-Door Cab Cover: Smittybilt Cab Cover - 2018/19 Jeep JL 4-Door

Sticking with the so-called ‘cab covers’ for a moment, we find this example from the Smittybilt brand. If the crew at that company builds covers with the same success as their other aftermarket parts, this could be a winning option. Like the Mopar cover, this one fits snugly on the Jeep JL windshield frame, roll bar, and body tub. It contours around the rear fender flares and is kept in place with adjustable straps (the windshield wipers do their part, too). Annoyingly, Smittybilt slaps their logo on the front, making it the equivalent of those annoying dealer stickers that car sales reps try to affix to everything they sell. Perhaps a jumbo JEEP decal can cover it up. The cover’s vinyl material should offer good UV protection against sun and other elements.

4. iiSPORT Heavy Duty Waterproof Cover for Jeep Wrangler

Here’s where smart customers do their research before punching in the credit card details. While the headline on this product says it is for a Wrangler Unlimited, further information says it is actually for a 2-door Wrangler. Following through to feedback left by people who spent their own money on this item, it’s clear the actual application is indeed for 2-door Jeeps. Read carefully, folks. Most customers had good things to say about this cover’s water resistance, but those who were unhappy were particular incensed. Nevertheless, it has an elasticized hem to keep itself in place plus a long windproof strap with a buckle. It comes with a storage bag that looks an awful lot like the ones that come with a sleeping bag for tenting. A license plate rope is said to help you cover the Jeep “in three minutes”, a claim we would like to test for ourselves.

5. KAKIT Heavy Duty Cover for Jeep Wrangler

best jeep wrangler coversDespite our warnings of fitment given above, the seller of this cover is insistent it fits all 2-door Wranglers from the first YJ models all the way up to today. Made of 6 layers comprising heavy duty materials, it is advertised as waterproof and tear resistant. The latter means it shouldn’t give up easily if bumped by your kid’s bike handle or an errant tree branch during the very storm from which you’re trying to protect the thing. As a bonus, this cover permits access to the driver’s door thanks to a zippered opening. A reflective stripe is good for visibility outdoors, while a double-stitched elasticized hem is said to add security and help keep it from blowing away.

Is a Jeep Wrangler cover worth buying?

Depends on your goals. Removing and replacing a full cover every time you want to pop out to the shops would be a huge hassle, for example. But those of us leaving our Jeeps behind while on an extended work placement or storing it for a long period of time will likely find a lot of value in a Jeep Wrangler cover. The so-called cab covers are very appealing to people who want to take the top off their machine in April and leave it off until ice forms on the seats around Thanksgiving.

How do I avoid moisture/mold when my Jeep Wrangler is covered?

Mold grows where there is moisture, so the key is to keep things as dry as possible. If fully covering up your Jeep, make sure the doors are latched tightly and all the windows are up. Good covers like the ones on this list will do a good job of keeping out new water but anything that’s already in the Jeep prior to storage should be removed; rent a ShopVac or other type of cleaner if necessary to make sure no drop remains before covering the vehicle.
