BFGoodrich Tires, known for creating tires suitable for challenging terrains such as desert racing and rock crawling, has now introduced a groundbreaking technology for off-roaders: the BFGoodrich ActivAir. This fully integrated tire-inflation system is designed to revolutionize off-roading by allowing drivers to adjust tire pressures while on the move, enhancing their capability to tackle various terrains.

ActivAir technology enables drivers to air up or down their tires to specific pressures, tailored to the terrain they are navigating – be it road, rock, sand, or mud. This adjustment can be done without the need to stop and manually change tire pressures, ensuring continuous momentum in rugged environments.

Harold Phillips, the global general manager for BFGoodrich Tires, emphasizes that the introduction of ActivAir aligns with BFGoodrich’s commitment to fueling adventure and safe off-roading. The technology is aimed at optimizing vehicle performance for the off-road community.

Developed and tested under extreme conditions, including the Dakar Rally and the Ultra4 Racing circuit, ActivAir offers a high level of reliability and performance. The system features patented technology and has been pressure-tested by top builders in demanding environments. Drivers can choose from four operating terrains for automatic inflation or deflation, or they can manually select their desired pressures for more precise control.

The core of the ActivAir system is a Central Tire Inflation System, designed by TELEFLOW. This system comprises the latest generation of pneumatic valves, and a display and control unit, with TELEFLOW acting as the intelligence center of the ActivAir solution.

A key element in the functionality of ActivAir is the integration of air passages in axle assemblies by Dynatrac, a crucial partner in this development. Additionally, specific wheels are designed to integrate an air passage. Currently, RFI wheels are available for the ActivAir system, contributing to its fully integrated design.

This innovative system offers a significant enhancement in off-roading by allowing for optimal power transfer to the ground and maximizing traction under varying conditions.
