3. Best Budget Subwoofer - Rockford Fosgate 12-Inch Shallow Subwoofer Enclosure

best jeep wrangler subwoofer

For those not worried about having a subwoofer that isn’t hidden or incorporated into the body paneling, Rockford Fosgate has a great option we had to include on our list of best Jeep Wrangler subwoofers. This shallow enclosure houses a single 12″ bass producing subwoofer, perfect for use in tight spaces. Unlike some of our other offerings, this subwoofer enclosure is constructed with 5/8″ Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF) wrapped in an elegant looking black high density carpet, so it is more sensitive to being exposed to the elements. For what you get and the price you pay, the tradeoff might be worth it to you.

4. Kenwood eXcelon 10” Subwoofer

Kenwood

Some companies have a cult following, whether we are talking about Apple, Coca-Cola, or Caterpillar. If you look at the audio market, Kenwood is a brand that some people swear by, and their eXcelon series of subwoofers is another example of a product that people love. This universal system (sorry, no specific Jeep Wrangler subwoofers here) is geared towards the do-it-yourselfer because it includes just the sealed enclosure and woofer. However, this is a gift for those who want to wire the system themselves and produce big bass out of a compact package.

5. DS18 JBASS Jeep Wrangler Shallow Subwoofer

DS18 JBASS Jeep Wrangler Shallow Subwoofer

The DS18 JBASS system mounts to the tailgate of the Jeep Wrangler JK, JKU and JL models (2017-2019), so it doesn’t take up much space at all. This set up comes with a pair of 10-inch subwoofers (DS18 SW10D4), though speakers are sold separately. Available in red, green or blue, your Wrangler will really stand out when you swing open your tailgate. And the whole kit is only 5.9 inches deep, which means you have more room to store gear in the back of your Jeep.

Which is better? A subwoofer under the seat or one that is incorporated into the rear paneling of my Jeep?

Both are great options and have their benefits. Installation of an under the seat subwoofer is pretty straightforward and offers good sound from a concealed source from curious eyes. One of the biggest negatives we’ve seen from reviews is that when you really crank up the sound, the shockwaves of your bass can become a little uncomfortable for whomever is riding shotgun. Subwoofers that are incorporated into the back body paneling of your Jeep Wrangler are good options as well. Yes, they’re concealed for the most part and can be simple to install, as most will utilize OEM mounting points. One of the only negatives is that while the enclosures look similar to the factory trim, they’re not the factory trim and can stand out. If the sound performance you gain is worth the visual tradeoff, then it’s a great option for you.

I see options of amplified and non-amplified enclosures. What is the difference?

Amplified enclosures will come with an amplifier, usually built into the enclosure, that provides a significantly stronger power signal to your subwoofer. This provides a cleaner sound at higher levels than you would get from only being powered by your stereo’s head unit. You could always add an amplifier to your sound system, but that will require you to find a secure, and usually hidden, mounting location that you also need to run power, source and speaker wires.
