Are you ready for a King of the Hammers challenge?

King of the Hammers is known as a brutal event, challenging both driver and machine over some exceptionally tough terrain. This year, the folks from an off-road group are giving regular people a chance to drive on the actual King of the Hammers race course, right from the starting line.

That’s right: drivers will be able to follow Tony Pellegrino from GenRight Off Road in their very own Jeeps on the same path the Unlimited Class race cars tore up the previous day. Along the way, guides will be telling stories from race day at each section of the course or obstacle, a fantastic detail that is sure to produce some animated story-telling.

Participants will taken into remote areas of the Johnson Valley OHV area, a spot where many wheelers have never been.

King of the Hammers

Organizers are wonderfully blunt in their description of what drivers should expect. “Sorry, NO stock vehicles,” reads the website before going on to say “…and this should not be your first time off-road either.”

Fair enough, then.

It is recommended that all rigs have 35-inch tires and lockers, noting that smaller tires (33’s) can make it but “…it’s the Hammers! Your undercarriage will never be the same!”

Taking place rain or shine on Saturday, February 9, all hands should meet up at the Mickey Thompson semi truck at KoH between 8:00am at 9:30am. The run will depart at 10:30am. The $30 per person entry fee is a steal and includes a BBQ lunch out on the trail.
