What’s your choice for half-ton supremacy?

Half-ton pickups are the modern battle warriors of automakers in America. They’re the profit centers and – more often than not – a halo vehicle for an entire brand. Ford sold over 900,000 F-Series pickups (and, yes, we know that figure includes Heavy Duty trucks) last year. Half-ton trucks are equally important to the bottom line of other manufacturers as well.

That’s why it’s time to stake your claim in today’s poll. With six distinct offerings from five different manufacturers, which one do you think is the best?

Starting with the sales daddy, the Ford F-150 remains the beyond-dominant sales king despite not being quite as fresh as its main competition. An engine choice exists in the F-150 for just about every conceivable situation. Introduced for 2015 and revamped a couple of years ago, the Blue Oval half-ton continues to lead the way in sales even though a good swath of the buying public thinks it no longer has the nicest interior.

For 2019, most would bestow that honor on the new Ram. Buttery-smooth materials and an infotainment touchscreen spanning a vast twelve inches is more than enough for some half-ton buyers to sign on the dotted line. For better or worse, its powertrains are very familiar.

General Motors introduced new Chevrolet and GMC pickups in the last twelve months, each of which targeting a different customer base with their own unique style. Both have an off-road focused trim in the form of a Trail Boss and AT4, respectively.

Let’s not count out Toyota, who recently gave their TRD Pro treatment to their aging Tundra. For once, the Big T is the value play, with top trims of its half-ton sticking significantly below those from the Detroit Three.

Meanwhile, Nissan continues to make inroads with their Titan by listening to customers and taking feedback to heart. The Pro4X trim layers on some rugged goodness, while it must be said that all Titans equipped with the Endurance V8 have the best half-ton exhaust note on the market today.
