Today’s poll is sure to light a fire in the hearts of brand-loyal truck fans.

Yeah, that’s right – today you have to choo-choo-choose between the quartet of mid-size trucks on sale right now in America. We’re doing this ahead of Ford dropping the Ranger on dealer lots, so that pickup is not included. This time. Besides, we’re still mad over their decision not to bring the Ranger Raptor stateside.

Let’s kick it off with the GM fraternal twins – Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon. They’re being offered as different choices here because the trucks are very different in their mission and target market … plus we don’t want to make things too easy on you.

On both ends of the price spectrum, the Chevy knocks out a slight advantage. It does so in the cheap seats thanks to a lower sticker price for the base model, while the bucks-deluxe crowd can sate their off-road appetite via the ZR2 and Bison options. The DSSV dampers and suspension geometry on these machines are superb. Still, the Canyon is no slouch, given its snazzy Denali trim coddling drivers who don’t care to venture too far off the beaten path. Both are available with diesel power.

Nissan’s offering is older than time itself, yet continues to sell like hotcakes. This is partly thanks to a rock-bottom price, especially in base two-wheel drive form. By most accounts, the Frontier is also as reliable as the sunrise, having now been in production since the last Ice Age.

Our final contender is the Toyota Tacoma. It, too, is posting record sales numbers, confirming the assertion that the market for this size of truck exists and is growing. Gearheads who like hitting the trail can install themselves behind the wheel of a TRD Pro, a machine now available with a snorkel. Whether you deploy it or not is up to yourself.
