Racers of all classes blasted through the Laughlin desert this weekend in the third annual event for Best In The Desert.

Officially called the *takes breath* Best In The Desert Third Annual Method Race Wheels Laughlin Desert Classic *exhales* this year’s race also featured the inaugural UTV Night Race, scheduled a few days ahead of the main event. This year, competitors faced a race course stretching sixteen miles.

Overall results saw Rob Mills in his Ford take first place in the Group A Sportsman class with a total time of 53 minutes and 35.369 seconds. That was just barely ahead of Keith Waibel who turned in a time of 53 minutes and 36.057 seconds. The next pair of Sportsman finishers, Jayson Strachan and Richard Nowlin, were both over the one hour mark.

Check out some of the action below.

Polaris had a successful weekend, competing in the event’s UTV P class. Robert Vanbeekum took first with teammate Macy Poelman only seconds behind claiming the second spot on the podium. Polaris RZR Factory Racer Seth Quintero secured third place locking in a complete sweep for the team. That win adds to the team’s overall 38 victories and 109 podiums over the course of this season.

The inaugural UTV night race was a doozy. Defending BITD UTV Turbo class champion Phil Blurton continued his run in national desert racing, winning the Laughlin 250 night race in Nevada to kick off the weekend. Blurton’s recent victory helped him build a bigger points lead in his pursuit of back-to-back titles in his No Limit RD-prepped Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo R.

This year’s race schedule saw all hands lining up for staging at nothing o’clock, with various classes roaring off into the dust at various times. Sunday was similar, as horsepower and speed levels increased throughout the day, culminating with Trick Trucks being the final class to take the green flag. Awards were presented at Harrah’s that evening.

Only a single time penalty was assessed this year, and it wasn’t even for rough driving. The #37 Trick Truck was docked time for using a different truck on Day #2.
