This weekend’s 22nd SCORE Desert Challenge in Tijuana is just about underway, with competitors scheduled to roar off from the start line less than 24 hours from now.

Kicking off just after daybreak on Saturday, September 22nd, all SCORE classes will race one heat each on Saturday and one on Sunday. Each heat is comprised of a pair of laps on the 33.7 mile course for total of 67.4 miles.

Competitors have a specified time period in which to complete the heats. On Saturday, each team will start in the order their number was drawn within their class. Group 1, made up of Pro Moto Unlimited and the like, stage their vehicles at 6:00am for a 6:30am start time. Dawn will break seven minutes later. The time limit for this class is 2h50m from each individual start time.

Group 2 begins getting the green flag at 11:00am. Here, you’ll find Baja Challenge desert machines, Pro Truck, and Sportsman UTVs. Their time limit is the same as Group 1. The mighty Group 3, a class that includes the macho Trophy Trucks, stage up at 3:00pm for a green flag intervaled start beginning half an hour later. The time limit for these high-horsepower beasts is 30 minutes less than the other two classes.

Pro Moto Unlimited, TT, and TT Legends start intervals is set at one minute. All other classes will start at 30-second intervals before taking on the desert.

Sunday’s schedule is a repeat of Saturday. However, the starting order for each class will be inverted from in-class start order for Saturday race. Race organizers take pains to note that competitors requesting rear start positions, late entries, and “Walk-ins” will not be inverted and will start at back of their class in both heats. They will also probably be sent home to their mothers.

Awards will be presented in start/finish area at the track. Group 1 and 2 results will post at approximately 4:30 pm with award presentations for those two groups happening an hour later. In a bid to create a bit of suspense, results for Group 3 will not post until approximately 7:15pm with those awards going to the victors at 7:30pm. All times are local.
