Heading off-road but looking to take a few comforts with you? Airstream has the answer – a camper with a three-inch lift kit.

Airstream has been building silver bullet trailers for ages, entrenching themselves in Americana like apple pie and hot dogs. Their latest creation for off-road fans is the Basecamp X, a single-axle travel trailer with a three-inch lift kit for added ground clearance.

“Our Basecamp X encourages you to go on bigger adventures,” said Airstream CEO and President, Bob Wheeler. “You can tackle rough roads and cold-weather driving with confidence. “The higher departure angle along with the aerodynamic design opens up a new world to explore.”

For good measure, Airstream threw on a set of Goodyear Wranglers and a stainless steel front stone guard for maximum durability. Approach and departure angles aren’t listed but the company bills them as better-than-stock for better attack patterns off the beaten path. The unit also offers a convertible rear space that was thoughtfully designed to easily adapt for eating, sleeping, lounging or storing gear. Loading and unloading is made easy with large rear cargo hatches and flexible storage space with tie downs.

With a dry weight of just 2635 pounds and a maximum GVWR of 3500lbs, the Basecamp X doesn’t require a macho diesel-powered truck for hauling duties. In fact, that featherweight measure will allow the unit to be towed by just about every crossover and SUV on the market.

The Basecamp trailer has a 26″ x 46″ rear hatch, allowing one to load and unload yor gear through the back of the trailer. From the closed hatch to the forward galley cabinets, there is about 126″ of available cargo depth. This keeps owners from suffering the indignity of trying to maneuver larger items like bikes and kayaks through the main door.

Price? A not wholly unreasonable $39,600, given the gonzo pricing slapped on most lifestyle gear.

Airstream is based in Jackson Center, Ohio, where a team of skilled craftspeople builds each trailer by hand.
