Bryce Menzies’ race effort in a MINI John Cooper Works Buggy was cut short on the second race day after a crash.

The RedBull.tv camera crew caught up with Menzies after the Dakar crash, who appears shaken but not injured. Sadly his co-driver, Peter Mortensen, wasn’t quite as lucky. “I’m alright,” said Menzies. “I was more worried about my co-driver – he ended up breaking his ankle.”

Mortensen called out a double caution to Menzies, but he misjudged the bump and hit it going too fast, sending the back end airborne until it quickly overtook the front bumper.

“I checked up and saw it and thought it was a smaller bump than it was. We hit it and unloaded the rear and it went to the front bumper. I think we flipped six or seven times. It’s not what I wanted to do for my first Dakar. I feel really bad for the whole team because of all the work they did to get the car here and get behind me,” said Menzies.

In the clip, it’s clear that Bryce feels bad for his teammates. But we all know that things can go wrong in a hurry, and sometimes it’s the least intimidating obstacles that catch you off guard.
