Ford says its 2017 F-Series Super Duty lineup will boast the largest fuel tank in the segment at 48 gallons. Ford uses the longer wheelbase and wider track of the new long-box Crew Cab to fit the huge tank between the frame and driveshaft.

Ford says its new fuel tank is 22 percent larger than the 2016 diesel-equipped Super Duty’s 37.5-gallon tank. It also adds that the 48-gallon tank is 37 percent larger than the 2016 gas engine’s 35-gallon tank. Ford says that between the additional tank size and the weight reduction of the Super Duty lineup thanks to its increased use of aluminum alloy, the all-new Super Duty’s range will be increased (although formal EPA figures have yet to be announced).

“We want to give our customers a more productive tool for getting the most out of their trucks,” said Brian Rathsburg, Super Duty marketing manager. “This means less downtime at the fuel pump and performing routine maintenance, and more time on the job.”

Ford also notes it will be adding a larger-capacity diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) tank for its Power Stroke-equipped Super Duty models, which will increase by 2.5 gallons from the 2016 model to 7.5 gallons on 2017 trucks. Ford also added a new fuel fuel and water separator filter to reduce maintenance costs by increasing the time between replacement.

The all-new Super Duty will be available in fall of this year.
