CJ-Greaves-Toyota-Chicago-6-22-15

CJ Greaves achieved a rare grand slam of off-road racing in the TORC Off-Road Championship “Chicagoland Slam” at The Dirt Oval at Route 66 by sweeping both PRO 2WD and both PRO 4WD races during the weekend in his Toyota Tundra.

In the process, the freshly turned 20-year-old took over the point lead in both series.  He now has a combined seven wins in 10 races in the two series this season.

The defending PRO 2WD champion opened up the weekend by winning Thursday night’s PRO 2WD event where he earned his third win in the class’ first four races this season.

When Thursday night’s PRO 4WD began, it was CJ’s father and reigning PRO 4WD champ Johnny Greaves who led the field to the green. Johnny held a solid lead the first couple laps while CJ worked himself from third to second.  He quickly started shadowing his father and just before the mandatory caution, CJ was able to take the lead from his father.  Shortly afterward, Johnny went to the pits with a shock problem and would eventually place fifth while CJ went on to earn his second consecutive PRO 4WD victory on the season.

Friday night’s contests once again opened up with a CJ PRO 2WD victory as he used patience not normally found in a 20-year-old to climb up from the fourth position, waiting for an opening and quickly taking advantage to eventually take the lead from veteran Marty Hart for his fourth win in five PRO 2WD races this season.

In PRO 4WD, the battle everyone was waiting for surfaced again as the Hall of Fame racer went head to head with his rising star son.  Johnny would take the lead shortly after the green flag and held the point position through the midway point of the race, while CJ worked his way up into second. After the mandatory caution, CJ was able to move past Johnny for the lead. Father and son went hard against one another, racing side by side for the lead, but after an over rotation by Johnny, CJ took a lead he would never relinquish. The victory gave CJ his third consecutive PRO 4WD victory and the PRO 4WD championship lead for the first time.

While the TORC Series was in the Midwest, the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series (LOORRS) was in Utah competing at the Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah.

After not starting the last two races, Eric Barron bounced back strong this weekend with a pair of fourth-place finishes.  On Saturday, Doug Fortin made it two Toyota Tundras in the top-five in PRO 4WD with a fifth-place showing.  He would earn an eighth place finish on Sunday and currently sits fourth overall in points.  In PRO 2WD, Myan Spaccarelli earned back-to-back eighth-place finishes.

The next race on the TORC Series schedule is the Big House Brawl at Crandon (Wis.) International Raceway, June 27-28, while Toyota’s LOORRS series program resumes July 18-19 at Glen Helen (Calif.) Raceway.
