Beauchamp-Off-Road-TORC-8-16-13Escanaba, MI – After back to back wins in at Chicagoland Speedway, Danny Beauchamp backed up that performance with great charge from the back of the field to finish second in Round 7 of the Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL. With only two more rounds of racing left in the season, Beauchamp is definitely in the hunt for Super Stock Truck Championship.

In previous years, the one mile long Red Bud short-course track has been known to really tear up both Sportsman and PRO race trucks. In an effort to minimize the wear and tear on all TORC racers, the actual layout was slightly changed as portions of the track were widened and the downhill section was relocated eliminating a troublesome off-camber corner. Of course the high flying rollers and the monster -air step-up were still in place.

Saturday’s Round 7 was a fourteen lap affair as the trucks were lined up in reverse order according to the championship points standings. This put Danny Beauchamp and the #826 Coplan’s Iron & Metal/Hill Top RV Superstore/JC’s Mobile Wash/Splash of Color/Pike Distributors Ford F-150 at the tail end of the starting grid. Before the race Beauchamp and his team discussed taking a conservative approach to the race during the first half of the race in order to avoid the typical mayhem that ensues when racing on a technical track.

The strategy worked as Beauchamp was in fifth place entering the mandatory caution and moved up to second place by the time the checkered flag was waved.

Sunday’s Round 8 began very much like the day before. The starting position for the Coplan’s Iron & Metal Ford F-150 was well back in the pack. When green flag racing began, the track was very slippery as the water truck spread an excessive amount of water throughout much of the track. As more laps were completed the track began to dry out, but the #826 Ford F-150 was still having difficulty getting the truck quickly around the track’s eight different corners. The condition prevented Beauchamp from challenging for a podium finish. Then with less than two to laps to go, the pitman arm broke, leaving the race truck without the ability to steer. This ended the weekend for Danny Beauchamp with an eighth place finish.

“Yesterday we ran a smart race and almost won the race,” noted Danny Beauchamp. “We wanted to use the same strategy for today, but it knew almost immediately something was wrong with the steering. My guys on the radio really kept me focused on just finishing the race and making sure we gather whatever points possible. Then the pitman arm broke and we were done. I know the championship is far from being settled. The final weekend at Crandon will be a serious leave it all on the track kind of weekend. I can’t wait until we get to the Big House.”

Heading into the final weekend of racing, Danny Beauchamp sits in third place in the Super Stock Truck standings, only ten points behind the championship leader. It looks like the championship will come down to three drivers, racing in the final two racers, as only one driver will be crowned 2013 TORC Super Stock Champion.

The final event on the TORC Sportsman calendar runs from August 31 to September 1 at Crandon International Off-Road Raceway in Crandon, Wisconsin.
