Douglas-Motorsports-TORC-Bark-River-6-19-13El Cajon, CA – After three rounds of racing on the short tracks of Dodge City and Eldora, Scott Douglas was looking forward to racing the new truck at the big free flowing all-natural terrain layout in Bark River, Michigan. The AMSOIL/Borla Exhaust/BFGoodrich Tire Ford F-150 ran well in practice and qualifying, but on the longer race runs, the team saw unexpected changes in the race truck’s handling.

The weekend began earlier than originally scheduled, the one rained out Eldora round of racing was scheduled Friday evening with practice and qualifying only a couple of hours before the drop of the green flag.

The qualifying session saw the #7 AMSOIL Ford stopped the watches with the third quickest time in the field. Even with the solid qualifying time, the team knew there was room for improvement. A couple of minor changes went into the chassis setup and then it was time for ten laps around the 1.75 mile layout.

The start saw Scott Douglas drop back at the start, but by the lap before the mandatory caution the white and black Ford had raced back into the third position. On the restart, Scott Douglas held his position and finished on the podium for the fourth straight time in 2013.

The next day crew chief Jason Schampers made a few adjustments in anticipation of intermittent rain showers that were forecast for Saturday’s activities. The rain did come and it delayed the morning practice session, but even with showers off and on throughout the day, the PRO-4×4 race started on time with nearly ideal track conditions.

The Round 4 race was nearly a carbon copy of Friday’s race. The end result was a fourth place finish.

“The truck has developed a push in the turns,” commented Scott Douglas. “This is the first time we’ve had our new truck at a big track. We knew there were some unknowns with this truck as we headed into the weekend, but our team will figure this out and keep the AMSOIL/Borla Exhaust/BFGoodrich Tire Ford up front.”

When it came for Sunday’s PRO-4×4 race, the weather conditions were very warm and sunny. This would quickly create dry slick areas throughout the race track. Throughout the ten lap race, Scott fought his way into a podium position. For a brief moment the AMSOIL Ford was leading the pack. Then very late in the race the front push the truck was experiencing earlier in the weekend reappeared. Ultimately Scott Douglas finished in fourth place.

“We know this truck is fast, and it really is very different from last year’s truck,” noted Scott Douglas. “We will continue to test before our next race in Crandon and we will be fighting for the top spot on the podium. There’s plenty of racing left in the season, so we are still in the chase for the championship.”

After six rounds of racing in the 2013 TORC Series PRO-4×4 Championship, Scott Douglas is currently in third place.

The next weekend of the racing in the TORC series is June 19-20 at “The Big House” in Crandon Wisconsin.
