Scott-Douglas-TORC-5-13-13El Cajon, CA (May 13, 2013) – The latest round of racing in the Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL at Eldora Speedway, presented quite a challenge #7 AMSOIL/Borla Exhaust /BFGoodrich Tire Ford F-150 and like a true champion, Scott Douglas brought home another podium finish. The weekend at Eldora really challenged the TORC competitors as the unique track layout and constant rain throughout the weekend really tested each team. Douglas Motorsports showed why they are some of the best in the sport.

The TORC track layout would only use the actual half mile long high-banked dirt oval. Track builder Jeff Nordstrom created a series of jumps and table tops creating a very high speed left turn only off-road course. Scott Douglas was very anxious to take some practice laps to get a better handle on the set-up for the 900 horsepower Goodwin Competition equipped Ford F-150. Unfortunately heavy rains cancelled all Friday activities, including the evening race program.

Then all of Saturday’s prerace activities were also cancelled in order for the track surface to dry, in the hopes of salvaging one round of racing. Now Douglas Motorsports had to create a tire and chassis set-up without any practice information as a baseline. After a team meeting, Crew Chief Jason Schampers came up with a package that would keep the AMSOIL/Borla Exhaust PRO-4 running at the front of the field.

About an hour before the PRO-4 group of racers entered the track for Round 3, another rain cloud passed overhead, dumping more water on the race surface. After the twenty minute delay the program resumed. Fortunately, by the time Scott Douglas and the rest of the PRO-4 competitors began their warm up laps for the thirty lap feature, much of the water was gone and the track surface was quite tacky.

The start had the Douglas Motorsports #7 Ford lined up in the third row. When the green flag was waved, the white and black AMSOIL PRO-4 looked to be the truck to beat. By the second lap, Douglas was in second place challenging for the lead. Then a few laps later, the AMSOIL FORD took the lead. As the field slowed for a full course caution, Douglas came into the Hot Pit to change a flat right rear tire. The crew had the truck back out without losing a lap, but was now at the end of the field.

Undaunted Scott Douglas went back to work, looking to get back to the front of the field. As the field went back to racing, Douglas was not only fighting his fellow competitors, but the mud flying off all the trucks. The poor visibility slowed his pace when racing in traffic, but the veteran competitor continued to press on.

On lap twenty two, Douglas moved past Rob MacCachern for third place. The final eight laps saw the AMSOIL FORD close the gap on the second place truck, but the checkered flag came out before a serious challenge could made.

Scott Douglas and his #7 AMSOIL/Borla Exhaust/BFGoodrich Tire crossed the finish line in third place, the team’s third consecutive podium of the season.

“This new truck is an absolute blast to drive,” exclaimed Scott Douglas. “We lost the rear tire probably from contact, but we had the truck to beat. Jason and I had some ideas on the truck step-up and the adjustments on the King Shocks and the grooving on the BFGoodrich Tires were spot on. I did struggle with some vision issues which caused some problems later in the race, but to come back to finish on the podium after making a stop in the Hot Pit, I’ll definitely take it.”

The next weekend of the racing in the TORC series is June 15-16 at Bark River Off-Road Raceway in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
