LAS VEGAS – The fastest amateur arenacross riders converged on Las Vegas’ South Point Arena this weekend for two days of competition for the 14th Annual  AMSOIL AMA Amateur National Arenacross Championships (ANAC). The on-track action kicked off on Friday with practice, qualifying, and the first four Main Events of the weekend. Festivities concluded this afternoon with the remaining 23 classes. In the end, a total of 26 riders were crowned AMA National Champions, while several others received highly coveted distinctions.

Competitors of all ages, skill levels, and gender provided great competition for those in attendance. Arguably the most-watched class of the weekend, the expert class, featured an intense battle for the win on Friday night with Texas rider Cheyenne Harmon piloting his Honda to a national title. Additionally, the rest of the top 10 finishers in the class earned their 250SX Class endorsement, making them eligible for competition for the 2014 season of Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship.

Another class with a lot on the line was the Supermini Junior (9-15), which was won on Sunday afternoon by Texas rider Justin Cooper aboard a Yamaha. In addition to national titleholder Cooper, the remaining two podium finishers, Hunter Budd and Wesley Banks, punched their ticket to October’s Monster Energy Cup, for its Supermini competition on Saturday, October 20, from Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium.

A total of 540 riders took a chance at victory at ANAC in 2013, featuring one of the most talented fields of competitors in history. Following a full slate of Main Events, a total of 19 different riders earned championships, 18 of which were crowned AMA National Champions. Cooper had the most successful weekend, taking home a total of four national titles, while his younger brother, Reed, also earned a pair of championships. Additionally, Harmon, California rider Zach Thinger, Michigan rider Jacob Williamson, and Texas rider Max Cleveland each earned a pair of national championships.

A current and former legend of AMSOIL Arenacross, featuring Ricky Carmichael’s Road to Supercross, joined Carmichael himself on Sunday afternoon to watch the races unfold. Former five-time AMSOIL Arenacross Champion Buddy Antunez, the winningest rider in arenacross history, and reigning three-time AMSOIL Arenacross Champion Tyler Bowers supported ANAC alongside Carmichael, cheering on the riders and offering prestigious guidance to the competitors. Between the three, there are combined 13 Monster Energy Supercross and AMSOIL Arenacross titles that have been won. Bowers was also celebrating his breakthrough 250SX Class victory from Saturday night’s Eastern Regional Championship Main Event at the Monster Energy Supercross season finale at Sam Boyd Stadium, just a few weeks removed from winning his 2013 AMSOIL Arenacross title.
