After having a new Nissan Pro Lite Unlimited built by Stamper in the off-season, No Fear Energy / Skin Industries driver Jimmy Stephensen added a new V8 engine to his truck prior to the weekend of Lucas Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) racing in his hometown of Las Vegas.
The newfound power was not without teething issues, and the crew added an extra cooler to combat excessive transmission heat. Even running in the cool night air, Jimmy’s transmission and brakes got hot on both nights of racing.
Stephensen qualified 10th with the new engine in his No Fear Energy / Skin Industries Pro Lite Unlimited and ended up all the way at the back of the pack after contact from another racer cut a tire in the No. 33 Nissan.
Stephensen then went on to pass 8 competitors in the last four laps of the race to finish 14th on Friday night under the lights at Las Vegas International Raceway. Not to be deterred, Jimmy bounced back on Saturday night to finish just off the podium in fourth place. “This was my best finish of the season,” Jimmy commented after the race. “Even with cooling and fuel issues we were still competitive.” Momentum for Stephensen is building coming into the final round of LOORRS racing.
The chips are all on table this weekend as the 2012 LOORRS season comes to an end at Firebird International Raceway. No Fear Energy / Skin Industries driver Jimmy Stephensen is currently 7th in season points and looking for a strong finish to the season. The 2009 Pro Lite Unlimited Rookie of the Year in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series and finished sixth in series points in both 2010 and 2011 in LOORRS most competitive class. “I want to keep the truck together on Saturday though so it is ready for Sunday,” Stephensen revealed. On Sunday, $35,000 is on the line as two dozen Pro Lite trucks join 30 Pro Buggies on the track for the biggest race of the year. Look for Jimmy Stephensen at the front of the pack when the dust settles at Firebird.
