The Glen Helen round of the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series is always one to get excited about, with much of the industry and many of the key sponsors in the series either wholly based or having a very strong presence in Southern California, and the vast majority of the drivers as well.

This weekend’s racing will mark rounds five and six of the series, which is seeing unprecedented success in 2011, and even though this is true, no one is sitting on their laurels. It’s the second time for the series to visit Glen Helen, and improvements for this year’s event include doubling the seating capacity and streamlining parking to create a better flow for spectators, so they can spend more time watching the racing and visiting with their favorite drivers and vendors.

This weekend’s event will not only include the usual suspects of the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series, such as Brian Deegan, Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg, Carl Renezeder, Rob MacCachren, Curt Leduc, Rick Huseman, Jeremy McGrath, Jason Ellis, Cameron Steele and more, but also NASCAR star and six-time off-road champ Robby Gordon will be hoping to make his presence known in Pro 2 Unlimited.

“We’re really happy to be back at Glen Helen in our own back yard,” says Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series race director Tony Vanillo. “It’s a unique track in the series that it has such a long front straightaway with three large tabletop jumps. It’s the only track on the circuit like that. We also worked on turn three since our last time out here to hopefully improve the racing. This event sold out last year, so we’re hoping it happens again this weekend, and we hope the fans appreciate what we’ve done to improve upon an already great racing facility for our second time at Glen Helen.”

General Tire and the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series have dedicated Saturday’s event to Jeff “Ox” Kargola, who recently lost his life after a motorcycle crash in Mexico. Kargola was one of the rising stars of the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series after achieving fame as a freestyle motocross competitor and personality. He will be missed.

And to round it all out, as part of this Saturday’s short-course off-road-racing festivities, Stronghold Motorsports and Lucas Oil will present Assuming We Survive, Hyla Brook, and Atreyu’s Brandon Sallar with the Black Cloud Collective on the Lucas Oil Stage at Glen Helen. This special concert is included with your admission and will be held on the main vendor midway for all spectators to enjoy once Saturday’s racing action is comes to a conclusion.

If you’re in the area, make sure you come out and check out the action. Last year’s event was sold out, so although seating capacity has doubled, make sure you get to the track early to secure the best spot you can to view the on-track action.
