INDIANAPOLIS (May 4, 2011) – Whether you’re a fan of short course off-road racing or not, there’s no denying the impact the Traxxas TORC Series, presented by AMSOIL’s new docu-reality program, “TORC – The Off-Road Championship” TV Show” has had on the off-road racing community in terms of introducing new innovative production means in the coverage of the sport.

A key element to capturing the motion-driven spirit of the TORC series has been the involvement of GoPro, maker of the world’s best-selling wearable and gear mountable HD cameras.  The Armory, TORC’s TV production company, has literally blown the boundaries of documenting motorsports wide open by using GoPro’s HD Motorsports HERO cameras, giving TORC Series fans – east and west coast alike – a perspective never before captured in HD off-road coverage.
“GoPro HD HEROs were a critical component of the show’s success as it gave the viewer a unique perspective inside the world of TORC,” said the Armory’s BJ Birtwell. “Whether we mounted the GoPro HD Motorsports HERO on RC Traxxas vehicles, on top of aerial drones or RC helicopters, or behind the suspension components of racing trucks that can clear 200-feet in a jump, GoPro gave us incredible picture and sound that we incorporated into The Off-Road Championship Show all year long.”

As intense of a laboratory and proving ground that the GoPro cameras experience all year, TORC Series events offer up new and innovative ways to utilize the GoPro HD Motorsports HERO line. At times, taking a beating beyond belief – the GoPro cameras always seem to come back still working, footage intact. Check out his TORC Series footage featuring GoPro cameras and the applications being used to document The Off-Road Championship Show for Discovery’s HD Theater:

“We have been impressed with the innovative use of our cameras and the thrashing they’re able to sustain throughout the course of a weekend mounted to 4,000-pound, 800 horsepower TORC Series truck and the absolutely spectacular footage that results,” said Justin Wilkenfeld, director of sports marketing and business development.  “We look forward to each of The Off-Road Championship TV Show episodes on Discovery HD Theater and the creative ways in which the GoPro cameras are used to deliver thrilling shots like no other camera can deliver, making for exciting and entertaining TV. As a TV production company, The Armory has really embraced and exploited the versatility of the HD HERO camera.”
