Kramer Hills

Dec. 01, 1997 By ORC STAFF

The Kramer Hills are a prime collecting spot for Agate, Jasper, petrified palm, green autunite, opalite, and gem-quality peridot.

These hills are east of Boron, and southeast of Kramer Junction (also known as 4 Corners - where US 395 and state Hwy 58 meet).

To get to the main collecting areas, on US 395 drive 4/10 of a mile south of the intersection in 4 Corners to a pole line road. Here, turn southeast and proceed 2.7 miles to another pole line road, where you turn south. At 1.1 miles there will be a trail off to the east. This is the beginning of the collecting area.

Taking the trail about 1.1 miles brings you a site with agate and Jasper.

If you proceed southeast on the pole line road about seven-tenths of a mile, there will be a road off to the left to the Kee Kay site. At this location there is petrified palm, green autinite, and red, brown, moss and flower agate. Reportedly, on the black volcanic ridge east of the diggings there is gem peridot.

Further south on the pole line road is a valley with substantial amounts of agate, jasper, petrified palm, and opalite.
