Class 7

Class 7 saw only one truck complete all 10 laps, and that truck was driven by Damien Mavis. Mavis' Chevy finished the course well ahead of Gary Mecham and Bob Land . Mecham, who has fought repeated breakdowns all season, completed 8 of the 10 laps, earning him the second slot, with Bob Land (also 8 laps) less than 3 min. behind in third.

Point leader Larry Roseler, who was the odds on favorite to win, met with disaster on saturday, crashing the truck, loosing a hood and fender, and costing Team MacPherson the race. Roseler completed 8 laps as well, less than 3 min. seperating him and Land.

With Roselers dissapointing 4th place finish, both his closest competitors (Land and Mecham) have closed the wide point gap for the series championship, but it may not be enough. With Baja, the last race of the season just around the corner, it would likely take a DNF by Roseler, and a high finish / victory by Land to wrest the 97 championship from the MacPherson camp

5th place went to Doug Siewart of S&S Racing, completing 6 laps in 2 hrs 41 min. Siewert struggled on during the saturday running, after a violent roll-over left the Class 7 without much of it's body, and looking much more like an open wheel buggy
