Class 10

Andy Wehe returned to the Laughin desert in a big way. Having sat out the 97 season thus far, The 1996 Class 10 and Overall Champion drove his 10 car as if he had never left the wheel, uncorking a 2:20:00 that proved to be faster than all but a select few Class 1's and Trophy Trucks.

Wehe's main competition all weekend came from Class 10 point leader Rod Muller, in the Muller-Hood entry. Muller's narrow lead over 2nd running Chris Harrold expanded in his absence from competition. wehe and Muller proved to be the only 10 lap entries in the class, as the fast Laughlin course resulted in an unexpectedly high attrition rate.

Kory Sheeler and John Phillips (currently 3rd in points behind Harrold) placed 3rd and 4th respectively with 9 laps each. Larry Bolin claimed a 5th place finish, running 5 laps, while Ron Brookshire made 1 lap, good enough for 6th. Bringing up the rear was Dave Sundquist, who did not complete a lap.

With Harrold's absence, Phillips 4 place finish may have given him enough points to take over the 3rd slot for the season thus far. In fact, the top 5 positions will be up for grabs at the Baja 1000, Yes the Class 10 race is that tight, and a victory there could result in a 97Championship to keep it company.
