Sloppy Shift Lever Fix

November 1, 2005

I thought Samurais were supposed to have this loose, sloppy shifter. Every one Ive ever been in had it. Turns out its not a standard feature. Gary Munck of Petroworks Off-Road Products clued me in to this, and the fix costs only a couple of bucks (or less, if you have all the tools you need and a dollop of grease). The necessary part itself costs only just over a dollar if ordered from Petroworks and the result is a shifter that moves and feels like it should.

Spring-Over

November 1, 2005

Here are some notes on how to do a complete do-it-yourself spring over lift on an SJ series Suzuki. The only parts you will have to purchase are some brake hoses and, of course, some wheels and tyres (yes we do spell it with a Y :-) this conversion is not for the faint-hearted and you will require some good basic mechanical knowledge. You must run a minimum of 31 x 10.50 x 15 tyres as anything smaller will be very, very unstable.

Suzuki Samurai - Removable Doors

November 1, 2005

Resistance was futile. All of my friends had made the move long ago, yet I procrastinated. Finally, on my latest trip through Rubicon&I pulled the doors off. In an instant, I was hooked. Theres no other way to wheel now as far as Im concerned. Your visibility for seeing rocks, the lines, the obstacles, and the world in general, improves dramatically. You also get rid of about 60 or 70 lb. when you drop the doors. Not to mention the fun factor reaches new levels and you add a whole new look to your machine. I liked it so much, I spent the rest of the Summer driving around town with them off. It was great seeing the reactions of Jeep owners when they saw a Samurai with doors off. Okay, enough testimonial&just do it!

Wheeler's Off-Road Deluxe Bumper Kit

November 1, 2005

Wheelers Off-Road is a new Samurai aftermarket company specializing in parts and accessories that are designed with the hardcore four wheeler in mind. Their rapidly growing inventory of hard-to-find and unique parts now includes a very impressive line of front bumpers. When I got word of the bumper early on in its developmental stage, I spoke with the owner of the company, Gary Wheeler, and learned what was planned for the final product.

Spidertrax Battery Tie-Down Kit

November 1, 2005

Spidertrax has earned a solid reputation in the off-road community for their extremely well engineered products for the Suzuki Samurai. That they take pride in the products they build is clearly evident in the amount of time each product spends in the design stage. Their product line currently ranges from such extreme equipment as their Full Floater rear axle to the more mild shifter knobs. Adding to the more mainstream side of their product lineup is the new BT-01 Battery Tie-Down Kit, and Off-Road.com had the first opportunity to test it.
