Amazingly, the month of January has passed, and we only got about 3 snowfalls with any accumulation, so my snowplow testing has not been as extensive as I had hoped.

AutoCAD has been a convenient sketchpad for me, but it's never been a great design tool. I just transfer hand-scribbled notes into design files, plot critical measurements and work out ideas to see how my projects will take shape. Designing in 2D is a drag and AutoCAD's 3D design tools seem totally counter-intuitive to me. So why have I been so reluctant to abandon my outdated copy of AutoCAD R14? Good question. All I can say is that I just never took the time to learn how to use SolidWorks.

I had heard about the new Hummer H1 Hood Lift from Rubberduck4x4, but even after it had arrived at my garage I had a hard time getting excited about it. I always pictured that a contraption like this belonged on a blinged-out show truck with multiple LCD screens at different angles in useless places, surrounded by neon tubes.

Their marketing director asked if I'd be interested in trying out any of Milwaukee's brand new V28 cordless power-tools. I declined as politely as I could, saying that I had some reservations about using battery-powered tools in a shop environment where power is a lot more important than portability. While I was sure there were a lot of other good uses for cordless power-tools, they definitely weren't for me. I had used a few cordless drills and reciprocating saws in that past, and always been frustrated by their lack of power and short battery life.
