Tony Hanson reports that Chrysler started Ramcharger production in 1974 to counter the Chevy Blazer. At one point, he states, they considered the name Rhino.

New Rubber: After an estimated 55K miles on the last set of BFG All-Terrain KO's, it was time for us to start seriously thinking about some new rubber. As detailed in the past few articles the BFGoodrich tires have provided ORC with a serious support on the road and more importantly in the dirt. However, after the recent changes to the front end over the past few months, we decided to move up a couple sizes and try a different tread design.

A standard Ramcharger drivetrain is stout, but can stand improvement for off-road use. Weaknesses of the standard drivetrain include u-joints held on with straps, typically high gear ratios, and open differentials.
