We love to see peoples winter projects and we think this one is very impressive. I think you will agree. As JR says " this aint no store bought rig" and we would have to agee.

JR's 82 was bone stock 6 months ago (and needed TLC). It started out as just big tires and some suspension and this is what it ended up as.

  • 5 inches of total lift with Energy suspension bushings(no sway bar)
  • 33x12.5 Interco tires squeezed on 15x8 wheels to run low pressures
  • 4.88 gears with a Detroit out back and Truetrack lim. slip up front
  • All-pro Profield joints
  • Warn lockers
  • New bearings, bushings, seals, hardware, etc. all over

Other Features:

  • My bro GAVE me a 87 parts truck with a 5 speed that he rebuilt for me. (Thanks MEL)
  • I used the IFS steering box out of the 87 with pump, res.,hoses, etc
  • All-Pro Hy-steer crossover steering kit with shock
  • All-Pro u-bolt flip kit modified to my needs (The All-Pro stuff works best on later model stuff)
  • I made my bumpers with 6" channel steel (cheap, easy, strong)
  • Roll bars are made from ski-chair hanger (super strong and free)
  • Simple flat-bed made from 3" angle and 2x12 pressure treated wood with rails to mount stuff
  • Custom wood tool box made by my Grandpa (bomb proof)
  • I'm running a stock 22r motor with a new Weber carb
  • Hedmen hedder to a 2 1/4 pipe straight back to a Flowmaster muffler
  • Electric fan from a Saab 9000 (to free up some ponies)
  • Pro-comp deep cycle battery
  • $18 gallon of O.D. green and a million dollar paint job by Grandpa
  • Roll-on bedliner in cab after fixing major cancer in floorboards
  • Kenwood stereo with custom speaker boxes by Grandpa

As you might be able to tell, this aint no store bought rig (You Rubicon guys know what I'm talking about). I built 90+ percent of this truck single handedly in my mothers 75 year old garage in the winter, in Leadville,CO, at 10152 feet above see level. (Literally single handed, I lost my right arm below the elbow to a machine about 3 years ago) I am damn proud of it. Thanks to Shawn and Big E for laying the beads, Mel for the tranny, and Grandpa for the above mentioned stuff. I took it to Moab last week, and everything worked great.I still need a few things , like a winch, armor, t-case gears, but she can hang on any trail I tried. Hope you like it. My friends and I call it "Little Red" (You can see why from the before pic).
