General Information

The Hummer is the civilian counterpart to the rugged military HMMWV (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle - pronounced HumVee). These vehicles are like no other in the world. They're not quite trucks, they're not SUVs... they're just Hummers.

Like No Other

In 2001, General Motors purchased the brand 'Hummer' and is marketing the Hummer as well as providing the distribution base (sales and service) for the vehicles. The HMMWV-based model will be referred to as the 'H1' and new models will stem from this naming convention.

Slated for a 2003 release is the Hummer H2. The H2 is a totally new vehicle - inspired by the ruggedness of the Hummer brand. Refinements abound and certain features and design requirements for the original HMMWV and Hummer will not convey to the new model.

More on the H2

Prototypes are in development for a H3 with undisclosed production plans.
