One thing that did not change is 1997 was the intelligibility of the options.
Most still go without any written description. Well, that's a little unfair
because most manufacturers let you rely on the salespeople to explain
everything. Oh great... This page should explain all the options for the 1997 HUMMER
model year and the prices (MSRP). Questions, comments, corrections can be
sent to me using the Feedback button at the bottom.
XLC2: 2 Passenger Hard Top This is what used to be called the 2 Passenger Hard Top Extended Cab.
It is a 2 door pickup style body with cover plates where the rear door would
be. Sliding rear window.
HMCO: 4 Passenger Open Top This is what used to be called the 4 Passenger Open Top with Hard
Doors. This is a four door model with seats for 4 people. It has a removable
top and rear plastic window. It has hard doors with operable glass windows. It
has a small pickup like bed covered by a tonneau cover. There are roll bars
behind the front seats (B pillar) and rear seats (C pillar).
HMC4: 4 Passenger Hard Top Looks like the open top but has a hard top with a glass rear window
that slides.
HMCS: 4 Passenger Wagon Instead of an exposed pickup like bed, the wagon back extends all the
way to the rear bumper with two side by side doors. It has (opening) glass
windows on the sides. The interior is open with a removable load barrier just
behind the two rear seats.
Interior
The "deluxe" interior is now standard and comes in gray or tan. A
sound reduction package has been added. Seats can be gray or tan cloth or
black leatherette. The front seats are adjustable up/down, forward/back, tilt
forward/back, and reclining seat back. The rears are fixed. Power door locks
are standard.
The standard radio is a Clarion AM/FM/Cassette. The deluxe radio is a
higher end model with a detachable face plate a CD changer can also be added
(NA is open top I think).
Powertrain/Suspension
The 6.5L non-turbo is standard (NA in CA). The improved 6.5L turbo diesel
is available as an option (required in CA). The 4L80E 4-speed automatic is
still the only transmission option.
The differentials still come with the Torsen torque biasing units. A
Detroit Locker is available as an option for the rear for a true locked
performance. The Goodyear Wrangler MT 37x12.50/16.5 tires are standard.
The 10,300 lbs GVW is standard. For fleet use, a 10,800 lbs and 12,100 lbs
GVW packages are available. The 10,800 is just spring upgrade. The 12,100
changes the springs, shocks, and some reinforced suspension members.
Optional Equipment
B02: Heated Windshield Electric heating elements embedded in the front windshield like a rear
defroster.
A04: Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS) The HUMMER's unique tire pressure control system that allows
tire pressure to be adjusted while moving. The system consists of an underhood
air compressor and various valves, tubes, and gauges. This option is factory
only (very difficult to add later). Requires A89 Beadlock
or A83/B83 Runflat Tire System
w/Beadlock.
A09: Cruise Control
A26: 10,800 lbs GVW Replaces the springs with stiffer units to increase the GVW from
10,300 to 10,800 lbs for extended high GVW operation (fleet). XLC2 (2 door)
and HMC4 (4 door hard top) only.
B26: 12,100 lbs GVW Upgrades the suspension and some frame components from a 10,300 lbs to
12,100 lbs GVW for fleet use. XLC2 (2 door) and HMC4 (4 door hard top) only.
Requires the turbo diesel engine.
A28: Air Conditioning with Auxiliary Rear Unit Air conditioning is a factory only option. The Auxiliary Rear Unit is
the unit between the front seats providing air for the rear passenger area (NA
on XLC2 2 door model). The rear unit has its own AC evaporator, heater core,
and blower.
A30: 12,000 lbs Winch Adds a 12,000 lbs Warn Mil-12000 electric winch to the front for
vehicle recovery.
A32: Driveline Protection Consists of 5 shields to protect the underbody from damage off-road. 3
tubular steel cages protect the front and rear differentials and brakes and
the engine and transmission. 2 plates protect the fuel tank and transfer case.
A33: Brush Guard The brush guard can be added to a vehicle with or without a winch and
is intended for protection from brush only.
A35: Fuel Tank Shield Adds the fuel tank shield from A32 Driveline
Protection.
B42: Power Windows w/Remote Power Lock Each door has its own switch with the driver having a master panel
with lockout. Keyless entry system using a keychain remote control.
A58: Detroit Locker Differential Replaces the rear Torsen unit with a Detroit Locker for a true locked
rear axle. The Detroit is an automatic locker so some artifacts may be felt on
the street.
A59: Body Colored Wheels The wheels are painted the same color as the body instead of gloss
black.
A73: Trailer Towing Unit Adds a Class 3 hitch and electrical connections.
B74: Rear Defrost XLC2 (2 door) and HMC4 (4 door hard top) only. Adds an electric
defroster for the rear window.
B75: Rocker Panel Protection Adds aluminum plates to protect the body under the seats from the
front to rear wheels. It also protects the sides from the doors down. The
plates extend to the drivetrain tunnel but do not extend into it (see A32 Driveline Protection).
A83: Runflat Tire System w/Beadlock Adds a spacer inside the wheels that perform two functions. It holds
the inner bead to the rim flange to prevent sudden tire deflation from side
loads off-roading, esp. under reduced tire pressure (see A04 CTIS), i.e.
includes A89 Beadlock. The second function is to support
the tire after losing air pressure, allowing the vehicle to be driven slowly
(30 mph) for a short distance (20 miles) without any air pressure. Runflat
operation may damage the rim, tire, and runflat spacer. A83 is for vehicles
without the 1GA package (see B83).
B83: Runflat Tire System w/Beadlock (for 1GA) Same system as A83 Runflat tire system. This option
is for vehicles that have the 1GA package that contains A89 Beadlock. The
runflat spacer is substituted for the beadlock spacer (credit given for A89).
A89: Beadlock Provides the beadlock function described in A83 Runflat Tire System without the runflat capability. Included in A83/B83 Runflat Tire System w/Beadlock
A93: Highway Touring Tires Replaces the Goodyear Wrangler MT radials with Goodyear Wrangler GS-A
radial tires. The GS-A has a less off-road tire intended for better highway
performance.
A96: Power Mirrors Driver and passenger mirrors electrically adjustable for tilt and pan
from a control on the dash.
Option Packages
P01: Power Package A09 Cruise Control, A96 Power
Mirrors, Lighted Visor Mirrors, Deluxe Rearview Mirror. The Deluxe mirror
provides outside temperature, compass direction, and map lights. P01 Power
Package is not available on HMCO vehicles. Note that this means that Lighted
Visor Mirrors and Deluxe Rearview Mirror are not available either.
1GA A04 CTIS, A28 Air Conditioning, A33 Brush Guard, B42 Power Windows w/Remote Power Lock, A73 Trailer Towing Unit, A89 Beadlock. For the XLC2 (2 door),
the package saves $724. For 4 door models, it saves $760.

Tire System w/Beadlock. For the XLC2 2 door, the package saves $1228. For the
HMC4 (4 door hard top) and HMCS (wagon), the package saves $1263. The 1GC is
