Reviewer's Notebook: Skyler Sport Top

If you're searching for that unique top for your Blazer or Bronco, you might want to consider the Skyler's sport top. The top transforms the look of your Blazer/Bronco into the look of a truck. When the top was installed, most actually took the Blazer for a truck. Skyler makes the top in different colors so most paint schemes can be matched. For our project Blazer, gray was chosen which was a perfect match for GM's gun metal silver. Other colors are black, white, dark blue, tan, and red. The non-drill frame is great for those people who hate to take any sharp objects to the body. To match your tinted windows, the rear window can be ordered in smoke. Another handy option was the storage bag when the top is off. Installation was easier than expected. A special bar is used behind the front seats is used to make the top wrinkle free. Once the frame is mounted, the top can be installed in 5 minutes and removed in 2 which is much quicker and easier than the stock shell.
The bar keeps the top tight and wrinkle free. The rear seat has to be removed or folded down

The shell is removed using ropes and lifted to the ceiling which means no storage space is taken. Before the installation, the shell has to be removed on the Blazer. First, remove all bolts and disconnect the interior light on the drivers side. Remember to get the hidden bolts in the rear behind the interior panels (click here for pic). Our top was removed using ropes and eyebolts then lifted to the ceiling. This doesn't take up space and can be done by easily. 2x4 blocks of wood were used to lift the high enough to get the eyebolts and ropes attached to the shell. After the shell is removed, the frame of the Skyler top is bolted on using shorter bolts that come with Skylers top. A wood dowel (included) is used in the middle to prevent sag and a long piece of Velcro is attached to the top of the tailgate. After the frame is installed, the top can then be started. The tightening bar has to be installed first which goes behind the front seats. Velcro makes it a quick job and is easy to adjust compared to snap tops. After the top is attached to the frame, the tightening bar has to be pulled and locked. To lock the bar, it turns and presses against the sides to stay in place.
When it's 100 degrees outside, you don't have to break a sweat to remove the Skyler top. Just loosen the bar, and in 30 seconds you're topless! The carry bag is a good option so you can keep it in the back and have it handy for those rainstorms.

The top includes the frames, bolts, bar, and velcro. An optional carry bag and smoked window was ordered.

We found this top very easy to use. The craftsmanship was excellent. The top definitely gave the Blazer a good look and the comments from people were always good. In the rain, we never had problems with leaks and seemed to be airtight for those cold nights. There are a few considerations to take into account. First is you lose your back seat when the top is on. Another thing to consider is a roll bar. If you have one or you're planning a roll bar in the future, this top can not be used.
