When building an on/off-road truck, an obvious and required
component must be auxillary lighting. What good is a capable truck,
if the destination isn't in sight? In the instant rotation of the
switch, night is turned into day (well not really, but the
difference is literally amazing). My jaw dropped, and so did my
foot, as I could immediately see with such an improvement, that the
ORC Silverado could suddenly cruise 10-15 mph faster.
Just wait until the switch is turned....you
won't believe the difference.
The company of Hella KG Hueck & Co. have been
a dominant force in aftermarket lighting technology for many years.
Based out of Germany, the company has 7 different locations in the
United States alone, employing 3700 people in total.
Research and development is what nurtures a good
product. With that being said, the Hella light has probably had the
best R&D development process out of any lights, simply for the
fact that if you were to attend an off-road desert race in the
southwest, almost 98% of the cars and trucks out there, employ
Hella as their tool of vision assistance. The Tech and Spec
The Hella Rallye 4000 is available in many different
configurations: Fog, Euro Driving Beam, Euro Driving Beam with City
Light, Pencil Beam and Cornering Beam (flood).

The light itself it created using a strong
die-cast zinc metal housing to withstand whatever you can throw its
way. The mounting system has a large cradle which secures more of
the housing area. Advanced Free-Form reflectors capture as much
available light as possible from the halogen bulb, which in turn
focus' the light in a pin-point target area. With the use of a
computer designed and controlled reflector surface, 50% more light
output can be achieved than compared to a standard reflector. The
outer finish itself is either a tough powder-coated black or a
chromium finish (although the pencil and cornering beam are
available in black only).
The Fog
Beam:
These lamps employ low beams to
provide increased forward lighting, intended for adverse weather
conditions (hence, fog-beam).Euro Driving Beam: The Euro Beam is designed to
supplement OEM high beams to extend the field of vision, simply
allowing for a safer drive.Pencil
Beam: This direct beam of light delivers a narrow, intense, and
extremely long flow of light.Cornering
Beam: The Wide Angle Cornering Lights take the place of the
factory high beams to distribute light over a wide area, while
continuing to provide medium range illumination.

Wired
Wiring the
Hellas was a painless process. All wiring of any kind takes
patience, time and a little know-how, but with the Hella Wiring
Harness Kit, things are simplified greatly! The kit comes with the
complete harness, able to wire 4 lights. Within the harness, there
are sealed connectors, a fused relay, toggle switch, and plenty of
length to get the job done. The rotary switch mounted perfectly in
the dash of the Silverado. For the inexpensive cost of this kit,
buy it....its worth it by far. The part number on the unit is 8KA

Safer Speeds
If you do ANY off-road or back road driving at
night, the Hella Rallye 4000 lights are a great, wise
investment.
When setting up for off-road auxillary lighting
for recreational use, the ideal setup would be the use of 2 Rallye
4000 Pencil Beams to pierce a long arrow through the darkness, and
one Rallye 4000 Cornering Beam to even out the effort. Our stock
headlights do such a good job covering the wide flood surface, that
we simply went with two pencil beams. But if you have the room and
the money, go with the three light setup as mentioned. Another
option is to run one cornering beam and one pencil. Either way,
just get the lights!
I can't stress enough
how much of a difference these units make. Granted, they are not
HIDs (High-Intensity Discharge - a VERY bright light also made by
Hella; although they cost nearly 6-7 times as much!), but the
Rallye 4000 hallogens are a great asset. I personally have already
talked a few of my friends into mounting these lights on their
vehicle.
Even in terms of practicality, if
you do most of your driving in town amongst city lighting, BUT you
DO drive down lonely roads (dirt or other) only every once in a
while, they are still worth your money!

The lights vibrated slightly when cruising
down rough terrain (this is due in part from the weight of the
light and the mounting surface stability.
