Take a second to look at your factory exhaust system. Are you
seeing a muffler that is nearly 10 feet long and appears to weigh
50 lbs? (note only slight exaggeration). Now pay special attention
to the pipe, which most likely looks like something that should be
installed on a Daewoo. | |
The perfect way to show the intense luster of
Ram Pro Line's ceramic coating, and the excellent craftsmanship of
Jardine. |
As I stated in the Airraid Intake System review,
one of my primary objectives was to increase performance, but to
not lose economy. One of the best solutions to this dilema is to
replace the factory exhaust with a Jardine Performance "Cat Back"
Exhaust System.
With over 40 years of
exhaust production experience, Jardine has the background and
experience to build the best exhaust for your vehicle.
The Product
The
guys at Jardine are proud of what they build, and they have the
facts to prove that they are better than the rest. This particular
system consisted of 3", mandrel bent, aluminized tubing, with an
aluminized, straight-though muffler. They claim that their kit
costs THEM more than three times what top competitors spend for
their own materials. BUT, they
maintain a
competitive price, regardless.
What else but straight through.... |
Ram Pro Line for Longevity
Before we installed the Jardine exhaust, the kit
was sent to Ram Pro Line for a protective ceramic coating.
Virtually any metal object that you own, as long as it fits in
their oven, can be coated for life long protection. Here's how the Ram Pro Line
performance ceramic coating works..... And for the Installation
Jardine told me that I could have this kit installed in a
matter of minutes, since every component fits in key with the
factory pieces. Were they right? Almost...but overall, the
installation was very simple.
Here's how we
did it, without the fancy hoist and mechanic's shop.....
Time for the Road....What Did
We Think?
From the first turn of
the key, it was obvious that the new Jardine Performance exhaust
was much more open and less restrictive that the stock unit. The
craftsmanship lived up to what they claimed, without a doubt. Each
heavy, 18-guage piece of steel fit very well, also.
If only it was easier for everyone to see the
under-cariage..... |
As far as performance goes, we noticed better
acceleration off the bottom, but beyond that, a dyno would be
necessary to see what gains were actually received.
The only negative comment that I can think of, is
the extra decibels exiting the tailpipe. The Silverado now has a
very solid, deep, and throaty sound. By no means is it beyond legal
standards, but noticeably louder than stock. Personally, we liked
the new Jardine exhaust note, but it may not suit everyone because
of the dramitic increase of cab noise.
If
you're looking for an aftermarket exhaust kit that will give you
performance gains, and last longer than any other, Jardine is the one.
We are open to suggestions from you on why,
how and what we should put into this project. Like I've said
before, the ORC Silverado will accompany the Off-Road.com staff to
many of the events that we cover, from Baja races to the Chevy
Trucks US Motocross Championship Series, so you'll get the chance
to have a first hand look at how our truck is coming along.
As of now, the project Silverado will be solely
dealing with 4
Wheel Parts Wholesalers. If you would like to be a part of a
major project after this series is over, we would like to hear from
you. For all future sponsors, we
will provide a complete full-feature article that will include
full-color photo galleries and detailed descriptions of your
product, along with step-by-step installation instructions.PLUS, we will also provide a link from the
project vehicle page to your web site. |
