Project Rock Runner 12 Volt Outlet Repair

Source: Toyota at Off-Road.com
After running the truck air compressor for about 10 minutes it stopped, the 12V outlet in my truck was dead. The fuses in the truck were all ok but no power at the outlet. If this happens to you here is what you need to do to fix it.
  • Remove the outlet completely from the dashboard.
  • look on the back of the outlet there is a small brown "wire" this is a fusible link.
  • Cut out the fusible like and replace it with a small copper wire.
  • Solder the wire in place
  • Reinstall the outlet into you truck and you will never have this problem again.
The fusible link is designed to burn out in the event the cigarette lighter is left in to long, it is rated for about 10 minutes of high current. Longer than that and there must be some problem with the heating element not popping out so it just burns up. The idea behind this is that you replace the whole unit and lighter to solve the burned fuse and lighter problem together. It's a good idea but not helpfull is you want to run something for a long time at high current.
