Bolt On Installation

Even after welding my previous aftermarket nerf bars on to my frame I found that they simply were not strong enough to handle the abuse they were given on the trails that I take my truck through.  I knew that something thicker and stronger was in order.  I personally did not want my nerf bars to be welded to the frame so I set out to find something that was a direct bolt on.     I found the perfect solution at A-1 Parts World, now called simply JSM, in Rancho Cordova, CA.  The nerf bars are custom made by Joe for each application in his shop.  They use a C type mount with  one 3/4" bolt at each support.  I chose to use the full longbed nerf bars on my truck even though I have a flatbed. This allows me a step and keeps my truck  from dropping in to any enormous tire swallowing holes. The steel is .120 wall square tubing and the C mount is  made from 1/4" steel.  Unlike my previous bars I did not have to drill any holes. Installation was amazingly simple.  After bolting the bars onto the frame it was time for the first test....the High-Lift jack.  I was a bit worried since my previous nerf's flexed a matter of inches and the new ones I had just put on were nearly touching my cab already.  To my amazement the bars barely deflected even after I had jacked both tires on the one side off of the ground!     It has passed the in-shop test and in order to give them the real test I took my truck up to the Barrett Lake Trail near the infamous Rubicon Trail.  I did not hold back when it came to the rocks, I drove over the tallest ones knowing that I would be coming down hard on my brand new nerfs.  I was jarred pretty good several times as my front tire slipped over some of the boulders and the nerf's came crashing down on the rock.  After finishing the trip I examined the bars carefully and found where the rocks and slid along but no dents to be found and the bars did not come up into the cab.     Since then I have also tried the nerfbars out on the Rubicon Trail and I am extremely happy with their performance.  I since mounted a front bumper also made by JSM and have found it to be equally bulletproof.  If you want something that can be mounted in a matter of minutes with no vehicle modifications that can handle just about anything try out one of JSM's products!
