Vehicle: 1994 Standard Bed 4x4 Pickup Pros: Certainly one of the easiest and most effective performance upgrades I have encountered, that's how I can quickly describe the addition of LC Engineering's exhaust header system to my 1994 Toyota 4x4 pickup with the 4 cylinder (22R-E) engine, 5 speed manual transmission, 31x10.50/15 BFG A/Ts, and no significant engine modifications My first trip with the headers installed averaged 200 miles. Immediately it was evident that the truck has increased acceleration. This was most noticeable in the lower gears from a dead stop; but is also evident at cruising speeds. Additionally, uphill climbs which used to result in downshifts to 3rd gear are easy to drive in 5th or 4th gear. Installation was straightforward, consisting mainly of removing the original stock (and cracked) exhaust manifold and emissions plumbing, exhaust down pipe, and heat shield and installing the LC header, emission fittings, and the LC connector pipe to the stock catalytic converter. All new gaskets are supplied by LC Engineering. The clamp and bracket that retained the exhaust downpipe to the transmission bellhousing are no longer used. Cons: While many would question a header's increased noise level, I can't say that the truck is louder, it just sounds different. If it is in fact louder, the amount is negligible and certainly offset by increased performance over the stock manifold. Conclusions: I would highly recommend this header system for anyone wishing to increase their truck's performance without going to such extremes as boring out cylinders or other major engine modifications. One of the best ways to describe the immediate feel of the truck is to say that with stock exhaust it had asthma, while now it can actually breathe! This is all without adding the LC cat-back system, I might add; the current cat-back exhaust is stock. I'm anxious to upgrade that component as I expect to realize an even greater performance increase. BACK to the main Product Reviews Page
