Whether you are cruising down twisty fire roads or crawling over large off camber boulders, it is very important to tie your gear down.  You never know when you might get in a collision or go somersaulting down a steep hill and that "what-cha-ma-call-it" you had sitting on your seat becomes a destruction-seeking missile.  In the event of a rollover, every loose object in your vehicle becomes a potential risk to your life as well as others around you.

I have seen way too many wheelers just stack all their gear in the back of their rigs and hit the trail without tying it down.  Usually nothing happens, but all it takes is one wrong move and your gear is all over the trail.

I was in my garage one night trying to pack for a wheeling trip and I was looking for a good place to tie down all my gear.  Suddenly I realized there wasn't any!  I forgot that I had removed the jump seats from the rear fenders of my Cruiser (which is what I used to anchor my tie down straps to).  I noticed there were some threaded holes in the side of the tub were the seats used to be attached.   Perfect!  I can make a bracket that used those holes and I do not have to drill any holes in my tub.

I cut two 24" pieces of 1/8" thick, 3/4" angle iron to fit between the rear section of the roll cage.  I measured the location of the existing threaded holes in the tub and drilled three similar holes in the side of each piece of angle iron.  I used the old jump seat mounting bolts to attach the angle iron to the side of the tub.

Then I drilled three more holes in the top of the angle iron.  I use the top three holes to anchor my tie down straps, rope, and bungie cords.  Now I don't have to worry about my gear sliding around the back of my tub or flying out or my rig whenever I am on the road or on the trail.
